Paradise Air

Greetings!

Well our April and early May have been windy, wet, and/or cloudy.  But I can feel clear weather ahead.  Summer is just around the corner and the Father's Day Fly-In is just the way to kick it off.  Are you ready?  I am.  Let's go flying :-)

Father's Day Fly-In
XT-912 Tundra with Topless Wing June 15-17, Wellsville, PA
The Father's Day Fly-In at Wellsville, PA is only weeks away.  I may get one more chance to remind you when I send my June newsletter out, but by then it will be too late to make plans if you don't already have these dates engraved into your calendar.

In the past the weather has been great and the camaraderie fantastic.  Wellsville is a beautiful place to fly and Gettysburg is about 20-30 minutes away by air.  Read on ...

World Record Trike Cross-Country

Andreas Zmuda and his girl-friend Doreen Kroeber are planning an epic new world record trike flight.  Starting from Florida on July 21st (2012), weather permitting, they will be flying their new trike on the adventure of a lifetime.  Their trip will take them to six continents, read on ...

Aviators' Code of Conduct
Flight Training Aviation Citizenship
Last month I came across two separate sources dealing with the issue of aviators' conduct.  One was an article written by John and Martha King written for the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) and the other an email notification of a new-to-me website called Aviators Model Code of Conduct (AMCC).

This is a topic near and dear to my heart because our behavior, and the behavior of my students, has a lot to do with how much of our sport we'll be able to enjoy in the future as well as the safety of ourselves and our passengers. Read on ...

Motion Induced Blindness
Motion Induced Blindness Seeing and Avoiding
This is an interesting tidbit that Doug Boyle from North Carolina sent me and it concerns a type of temporary blindness that is of particular concern to us aviators.  It is called motion induced blindness (MIB) and knowing when and how it occurs is important to properly scanning for traffic.  Read on ...

Have you started taking your flying for granted?  If you have I want to encourage you to take someone new to flying up this month and rediscover through their eyes just how lucky we are to be flyers.  In this country only 1/10th of 1 percent of the population are pilots and we probably represent the highest percentage of pilots to population in the world.  It is a privilege to fly -- protect it, enjoy it, but don't take it for granted.

Fly Safe,
