Calling for National 2-1-1

On Thursday, March 18, 2010 more than one-thousand United Way volunteers and staff visited Capitol Hill with the purpose of gaining support on some important issues including the "Calling for 2-1-1 Act." Success! By Friday evening, eight new co-sponsors in the House and one in the Senate had already signed on to 2-1-1. We have since received enough support to bring the bill to vote! This is great news for 2-1-1 and United Ways across the country.

The 2-1-1 Act would facilitate availability of 2-1-1 telephone service for information and referral on health and human services, including volunteer services.

Mass 2-1-1 handled more than 48,000 calls last year!

Early Childhood Education programs receive recognition
We are proud to announce that two United Way of Central Massachusetts' funded programs, Rainbow Child Development Center and YWCA, were recognized by Root Cause Social Impact Research as recommended programs for community investment. This distinction was based on the extremely high level of quality that exists in their programs.

To get a better understanding of why our work in this area is crucial to our community, please read the following report. Root Cause Report>>
