| 2009 Campaign -
backed by a strong community |
|
The 2009 Campaign is off to a great start! People want to help out, they want to be involved, they want our community to be the best it can be. You, our closest supporters, understand that United Way is a great way to achieve these goals. The results so far speak for themselves. With a current commitment of $3.1 million from corporate, workplace, foundations and individual donors, we are half way to our 2009 campaign goal of $6.2 million!
Thank you for all you have done and will be doing to make this campaign a success!

| Community school presentation |
| Jane Quinn, Director of the National Center for Community Schools, spoke recently to members of the community gathered by United Way of Central Massachusetts.
Ms. Quinn described the development of the community school model; how to create and sustain effective school, community, family partnerships and the results from existing programs.
This presentation was made as part of our Strategic Planning process. We have asked community leaders, experts and stake holders to guide us toward making big, bold improvements in our community.
Thank you to those who have joined in this process thus far, we appreciate and value your time and input.

| Volunteer opportunities |
As the holidays approach, United Way also makes it easy to give back to the community through volunteering!
The holidays are a time of great need for the human service agencies in our area and a gift of your time can make a real difference. Even if you have a busy schedule there are opportunities to lend a hand. To find a done-in-a-day volunteer project that suits you: click here>>

| Advocate for Early Childhood Education |
A recent Editorial in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette criticizes new regulations for Early Childhood Education and Care. United Way employee, Marianna P. Islam, reacts in her own words.
"...85% of a child's core brain structure is formed by age 3, but as a society, we publicly invest less than 4% to these years."
