Take Control of YOUR Content Online...

Recently I was joined by James Cella, president of SiteQuest Technologies, Inc., the creator of Compliance Watch Dog. Originally developed for the securities and brokerage industry (which have some very stringent requirements when it comes to online communications), the CWD system is a great tool for any organization that is interested in taking control of the content being distributed on sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Compliance Watch Dog

By connecting to each of these social sites directly (through the use of an API - application programming interface), the CWD program scans, retrieves and archives all of the content that you are producing (and even what others are posting to your account). It can even "crawl" your website and record changes staff has made to pages, with before and after ability to browse the site as it appeared on any given day in the past.

What's the big deal, you may ask...?

Well, for businesses that engage with customers on a regular basis via the web, the ability to have all of this content at your fingertips if there is ever a need to reproduce a conversation can be invaluable. You have immediate access to YOUR information from one, easy to use system.

If you'd like to learn more about this amazing system, please contact me at eric@poweredbywsi.com or (269) 841-5007. With a monthly cost under $200, it's not nearly as expensive as you may think for a system that does so much. As more communication takes place online, can you afford not to have a service like this backing up YOUR information?

Get The "NO"s Out Of The Way And YES Is The Only Answer

Just Say NoComing out of the banking industry, I'm used to "doing battle" with the compliance department whenever a new product or service came along. In fact, I actually was the compliance officer for a short time, so believe me... I know what I'm talking about here. With everyone jumping on the social media bandwagon these days, more businesses are starting to think about things like employee policies, procedures, training and other related issues that could help to keep them (and staff) out of hot water down the road.

Even if you're not a banker, chances are there is likely someone in your organization that you need to "convince" when you come up with a new idea for a product or service (and how you are going to mitigate any of the risks involved with the new process). When I work with clients, especially as it relates to social media, one of the things we try to do is think of all the probable NO responses we'll get from our friends in compliance and have our rebuttal ready ahead of time. The thought is if we eliminate the opportunity to say NO, the only answer that remains is a YES.

If you are to the point where you'd like some help brainstorming on the possible "NO"s and how to address them proactively so you can get a YES, give me a call. I've worked with many clients to help them develop risk and readiness assessments, policies and procedures to help ensure that your efforts have the greatest chance of success (and you get past the "NO"s).

2011: The Year Of The Mobile Device - Are YOU Ready?

Mobile DevicesThis year appears to be the tipping point when it comes to the mobile web and adoption of smart phones as a legitimate tool for consuming content online. It's estimated that by 2013 the mobile device will overtake conventional computers and become the #1 device for browsing the web, but many businesses still lag in their ability to effectively communicate their message over this channel.

What has your organization done to embrace this shift towards the mobile customer? Do you know what the difference is between having a site that is "mobile friendly" and "mobile formatted"? Or, do you know what the difference is between SMS and MMS (or even what they mean) and how you can use these to quickly communicate to those that want to hear from you?

Don't get caught standing still and watch the mobile world fly by. Learn more about how to prepare yourself for a mobile strategy and if you'd like to chat further, you know that mobile device does make phone calls too... so give me a ring!

Quick Tip: Stop Choking Your E-Mail With Large Attachments

If you ever had to e-mail a large file like a PowerPoint, graphic file or multi-page PDF, you know first hand that it can choke an e-mail account to a grinding halt. Not only do these files take a long time to attach and upload when you're the sender, but the recipient may end up rejecting the file due to restrictions on their end, making the process even more frustrating.

Not any more... That used to happen to me until I discovered YouSendIt.com. This great service (and you can get started for free) allows you to upload large files and send a link for the recipient to download the file, instead of attaching it directly to an e-mail message.

YouSendIt

So, the next time you are getting ready to send a large file, give YouSendIt.com a try. Getting started is easy and you can use the service for free (with some restrictions) to see how you like it. I send all my PowerPoint presentations this way after conference sessions and it works great! Enjoy... :-)

Thanks for taking the time to read my newsletter. If you have suggestions for future issues or questions, don't hesitate to let me know. See you next month...
