Headed to Cedar Point in September - But Not For the Roller Coasters...
As mentioned in the introduction to this month's issue, I'm kicking off my 2010 fundraising effort to support the fight against Neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer. This year, as in year's past, I've picked a unique event in which to compete and raise money for the Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation.
For 2010, I'm competing in a Half Ironman distance triathlon at Cedar Point, in Sandusky, OH. While you may think of roller coasters when you hear Cedar Point, on September 12th I'll be spending my time swimming (1.2 miles), cycling (56 miles) and running (13.1 miles).
For those of you who may not be aware, I started doing this back in 2006 and was inspired by a little girl named Christi Thomas. Unfortunately, she lost her four-year battle against this disease, but I'm fighting on to help keep her spirit alive and doing what I can to help find a cure.
Be sure to check out my blog for more information and you can visit Christi's website or her blog for more about this amazing little girl. She certainly has been an inspiration to me in my life and that's why I'm trying to help make a difference.

So, What's This Endomondo Program?
Those of you who have connected with me via Facebook or LinkedIn likely have been seeing updates to my profile from a site called Endomondo. This is a service that I've been using to keep me "motivated" and track my workouts as I train for my Half Ironman Fundraiser. I downloaded the App for my Verizon Droid phone and whenever I head out for a bike or run, I turn it on and it tracks my workout and automatically posts to Facebook when I'm done. I'm also manually entering in my swim workouts (since it's probably not a good thing to take my phone in the water). As you may know, when you set a goal for yourself it's good to get encouragement (and a little peer pressure) and Endomondo holds my feet to the fire and keeps me motivated. But, even if you're not training for a triathlon like me (or don't have a GPS-enabled phone), you can use the Endomondo site to track your exercise efforts. With an account (yes, accounts are free) you can log and map any of your activities and even share them with your friends. It's a great way to set a goal and watch your progress - plus it makes it fun. So, give Endomondo a try. You'll be glad you did. |
