Virginia Bankers Association - 2010 Retail Banking Symposium a Success!
Last week I was in Williamsburg, VA speaking at the Virginia Bankers Association's Retail Banking Symposium on the topic of.. what else... Social Networking. According to the folks from the VBA, attendance was up over last year, which is great considering the challenges that are going on in the banking industry now. I met a lot of very nice bankers during my time in Virginia and commend the VBA for an excellent conference. Great job, VBA! We talked about the theory of " know me, like me, trust me" and how social networking can play an important part in that process. I wrote a nice blog entry on the topic, so if you're interested in reading more, stop over to my blog and check it out. Be sure to also read my "P.S." at the end of the post and you'll get an idea of the story that's behind this picture. All I'll say here is congratulations to Mark Debes and thanks to Wanda Queen for being such a stand-up person! |
Facebook Strategies for Business - Complimentary White Paper Download...
With over 400 million users now, Facebook continues to grow and many small businesses are finding out this can be an excellent way to build relationships online. According to their own statistics, there are over 1.5 million small businesses with their own "page" on Facebook, but what exactly does a business do to help increase their chances of success?
One of my fellow WSI colleagues (and good friend), Baltej Gill, has penned a very informational whitepaper entitled Facebook Strategies for Business: Learning How To Monetize The Fastest Growing Social Site and you can download your copy today. This 8-page document is chock-full of great information that you can use today.
So, whether you're thinking about starting on Facebook or already there and looking to do more, this whitepaper is worth the read and will be a great resource for you. Of course, if you'd like any assistance implementing the ideas you get from the whitepaper give me a ring. We'd love to help!

Never Miss Another Word? This Thing Rocks...
I love to type and typically when I'm at a conference I'm the one banging away on the keyboard, trying to keep up with the speaker taking furious notes. But, even with the fastest typing, there's always something that I miss by not being able to type fast enough.
But, that's all going to change with my new Pulse Smartpen from the folks at Livescribe.com. This amazing pen is actually a computer that writes. With an on-board camera that picks up your handwriting off the special "micro dot" paper, this pen also records audio while you write.
But, the cool part is during playback. You can take your pen and simply touch the words on the page and the audio will automatically replay through the pen what was being said at the time you wrote on the paper. Synchronization is seamless with your computer (PC or Mac) and you can easily search your handwritten notes once they are transferred from your pen.
I've only had mine a few days, but already I'm amazed at how well it picks up my handwriting and can't wait for my first conference to give it a real test. This is an amazing productivity tool for anyone that is responsible for keeping track of information (um, that's pretty much everyone these days). I'll keep you posted on how it goes and maybe even upload some notes for you to check out next month.
In the meantime, check out the Livescribe website and you can also search YouTube for "livescribe" and see some videos online. It really is as easy as it looks!
