What's Happening in the World of Social Media These Days?
One of the many advantages of being part of the global presence of a company like WSI is the access to research data and keeping tabs on the changing Internet environment. Like many aspects of the 'net, the landscape of social media is continually changing and many of my clients contemplate (almost daily) if they need to be jumping in and participating in the conversations that are taking place online. While I'm not saying that a social networking strategy is necessary for every business, I do recommend that everyone should at least take the time to understand what's out there so they can make an informed decision on whether or not to participate in the "online conversation" that may be taking place about them or their business. Our new 2009 Social Media Trends Report is a great starting point, loaded with information and statistics on what other businesses are doing in the area of social media. Visit my website and download your copy today from the Whitepapers section of my Knowledge Center. It will be the best 11 pages you've spent time reading in a while, I guarantee! |
Road Trip - Orlando, Salem, Memphis... Whew!
Whoever said that being an "Internet Consultant" doesn't mean you have to travel and you can do all your business "virtually" certainly didn't look at my schedule for the past month. Granted, I get the opportunity to meet with folks from all over the country via Skype and GoToMeeting, but we've been on the road quite a bit lately "spreading the gospel" about Internet Marketing and Social Networking - and meeting some great people along the way. There's no substitute for good 'ole "face to face" contact!
In September, I had the pleasure of speaking at WSI's annual Excellence & Innovation conference in Orlando, where I shared insights on serving the financial services sector to over 350 of my colleagues. This was the first time a presenation I had given was actually broadcasted live over the Internet and was seen across the world.
After a brief return home, we headed out again to the East Coast, flying in to Boston and driving to Salem for the 2009 New England Financial Marketing Association's Fall Conference. I presented on Social Networking Strategies for Financial Institutions and generated lots of great questions and comments. And, if you ever get the opportunity to visit Salem in October it's a must. This is "their month" and they go all out in the "spirit" of the Halloween season...
From there, it was off to Memphis (yes, we DID see Elvis), where I presented at the Bank Tech Summit 2009. This event is put on as an "invitation only" event by my good friend Jimmy Sawyers with Sawyers & Jacobs, LLC, a very well-respected consultant to the banking industry. I've known Jimmy since my days as a banker serving on the Operations and Technology Committee for the MBA and have helped to bring him to Michigan to present in years past. We've kept in touch during my transition from banker to consultant and when the opportunity to attend his event came up, I just couldn't say no.
If your organization or association is looking for a speaker in 2010 to talk on the ways social networking is changing the way we do business, please keep me in mind. I'd love the opportunity to come to your event and continue to "spread the word" on how doing business online is changing! Simply reply to this e-mail and let's talk...
