Here's A Great Way To Enjoy Your Tomatoes All Winter Long
Canning Tomatoes Pict quick and easy recipe for canning your tomatoes

Very Important to sterilize your quart jars and keep them hot.

Wash tomatoes, slice in half, and squeeze out seeds. Place tomatoes in food processor and pulse a few times (just enough to break down the tomatoes to your preferred texture).

Into hot sterilised quart jars add:
3 fresh basil leaves to the bottom of the jar, along with 1 Tbsp salt (can you use less salt if desired). Fill jar with crushed tomatoes and top with three more basil leaves, leaving 1/2" headspace.

Wipe the rims of the jars and top with sterile, hot lids and rings. Process in boiling water bath for 20 minutes to seal jars. Store and use as desired.

Notes: Don't use iodised salt as it alters the color of the food. I use Diamond Crystal Kosher. Also you'll get a much better taste if you use fresh picked basil.

The Gardening Season Is Quickly Coming To An End...Here Are Some Tips To Get It Ready For Fall

If you want a really productive garden next spring let's not neglect to take care of the soil in the fall and winter. Taking the time to give your soil a good jump start now will mean you have that much less to do when spring rolls around.

Here's what I do in my garden... once I have all the dead plants out and the garden is all cleaned up I combine compost and manure and spread it real thick over the soil.  Then I like to till it into the soil and then cover it with the mulch I made from grass clippings, leaves and my chopped up vegetable plants.  This not only adds rich nutrients to my garden but protects soil from run off during heavy rains.   I repeat this process again in the spring right before I set out all my seedlings.

I sure am going to miss those juicy mater sandwichesJ

Ever grow Cherry Tomatoes?

These smaller bush type plants are remarkably easy to grow and are perfect for tight spaces.  The Cherry Tomato is smaller and sweeter than conventional tomatoes which makes them perfect for a low calorie, nutritious snack. They can get costly at the grocery store so a lot of people prefer to grow them at home where they grow like weeds under the right conditions. Are you working with a small space?  No problem these plants take up very little room, are perfect for container gardening and they add a colorful (and very tasty) addition to your patio.
