 Transplanting Tips

Transplanting is an important step and if you do it carefully, you can look forward to an abundant crop of healthy mouth watering tomatoes this summer.

Once your tomato plants have been hardened, or acclimated to outdoor conditions, and night-time temperatures continually exceed 50 degrees, it's safe to transplant. Also as a rule of thumb I wait untill my seedlings have at least 6 leaves before I transplant.
After digging a nice deep hole I put in a couple of tablespoons of organic sulfur to help ward off disease and small shovel full of some rich compost.  Place your seedling in the hole up to the first set of leaves.  This will help your tomato plant develop a nice sturdy root system.  Give them a nice deep watering and allow the soil to dry out before watering again.  This will send the roots deeper in to the ground looking for water and give you a sturdier plant.  For more growing tips go to Penny's Growing Tips

2010 gardenCheck Out The Rest Of Our Garden
There is nothing like a big fresh salad for lunch and it doesn't get any fresher than this.  We are already enjoying lettuce, radishes and green onions with much more to come.

This year we put walkways in our garden and it sure makes it easy to get to those nasty weeds without tromping on everything.

I love seeing how other people design their gardens so if you get a minute snap a picture of yours  and send it to me.  You never know it may end up in one of my newsletters:)

Once again thanks so much for allowing me into your home and taking the time to read my newsletter.

Happy gardening!
