"It's ALL about Watering" Correctly
The #1 Problem with Young Seedlings is "Damping off". #2 is Sunscald.
Watering requirements vary with the type of containers you use.
For example, if you use Peat containers
Your soil will dry out faster than say....plastic containers. So it's NOT about how many days to water...but WATCH your soil closely.
It's healthy to let the Soil dry THOROUGHLY for a day or two...the Peppers roots will grow deeper seeking water. Many more plants die from OVER-WATERING than from not enough water. Over watering causes damping off which damages the Chiles stem at the soil line.
Sunscald is common with young, tender seedlings that haven't been "Hardened off" properly. GO SLOW....the first day you take outside 1/2 hour is plenty. If it's cloudy instead of Sunny...better yet.
Next day....and hour....then two hours....etc.
BIG TIP...watch putting your indoor Hot Peppers under or next to a vent....the Heat can kill them.
If you use Heat Lamps, Gro Lights or a Heating Pad...this will only exponenially magnify the problem. |
