legation, a galleryThe Coast is Never Clear, featuring new works by Annie Stimson, MFA Thesis Exhibition

Through November 20, 2011

The Coast is Never Clear is a new body of work by sculpture and installation artist, Annie Stimson, which speaks to the fear and uncertainty of our present state and unknown future. Ideas of ritual, alchemy, history, and science present themselves in works that delicately and beautifully hint at the trepidation the future may hold and perhaps what our role in it might be. Stimson uses materials such as laboratory equipment and neon tubing to refer to science and technology, present and future, both disastrous and beneficial. Ornate patterning of text references our past while their phrases speak of our ominous future. On the verge of 2012, a year overwrought with prophesies about the end of the world, this exhibition is one artist's take on what may be to come.

Opening 6p/Artist Talks 7p

Cleveland West Art League presents Forum 2011, a group exhibition and event that invites a healthy exchange between viewers and artists.  Join us on November 18 when several of the exhibiting artists will be standing up and talking about their work, and we encourage viewers and other artists to respond with questions and comments.  Your chance to be seen and heard!  The exhibition opens at 6p, with talks beginning at 7p.

Then, return for more participation on Saturday December 3 from 2-4p, when CWAL will hold a work-in-progress feedback/critique session.  Artists are invited to bring in work they would like to share for a critique.  This is great way to get a fresh perspective on your artwork!  This critique session is free and open to all - you do not need to be a CWAL member!

Tregoning & CompanySPIRITUS
Recent Photographs by Elisabeth Sunday
Through November 2011

"Mirror photography is much more than photographing a reflection, it produces a visual alchemy that combines the physical world with that of the great mystery. Photographing with mirrors allows me to see the world in a different light and capture some element that remains hidden in straight photography. The use of elongation in indigenous and western art has long been an archetype for the unconscious. Following in this tradition, I use my mirror to shine into the internal deep spaces where we universally connect to something greater." - Elisabeth Sunday
