Adnan ChararaAdnan Charara: Adaptability
Kennth Paul Lesko Gallery
March 18-May 14, 2011

Adnan Charara came to the U.S. by way of Lebanon and Sierra Leone--eventually making his home in Detroit, Michigan. In his Return to Sender series, painted figures on envelopes merge with canceled postage in complex narrative compositions. In his found art assemblages, objects take on human characteristics, as a protractor becomes a ballerina's tutu or a hammer bows its head in sadness. Charara's life and his work, even his materials, are about adaptability.

Live music featuring Ashley Brooke Toussant 9p

Legation will be transformed by six sculpture and installation artists in this exhibit featuring new works by Clare Murry Adams, Kate Budd, Isabel Farnsworth, Susan McClelland, Carey McDougall and Kortney Niewierski.  The works all relate to the intertwining of lives and events and the subjective thought patterns that inspire these artists. The artists have taken cues from human emotions such as curiosity, desire, and self evaluation, and much of this is evident not only through the finished sculptures but through drawings that will be on view as well. The works represent altered entities; those that have been affected by everyday abrasion or an invasive species to those romanticized by fantasies and oddities that spark the imagination.

Working with authentic bark, leaves, twigs and grass, Frazier creates calming textural fine art, home decor, and gifts that accentuate repeating patterns found organically in nature. Collectors, who have followed her work for the past fourteen years will see Frazier's signature "distressed" details combined with sophisticated treatments, reinforcing why she's one of the most recognizable green artists in the region.
