Playreading/Photography Exhibit
smARTspace at 78th
(first floor exhibit/event space)
7-10 pm
Join us for a staged reading of For the Price of a Cow written by playwright Margaret Lynch and directed by Oberlin theater faculty member Caroline Jackson Smith. In 1912, a young Irish man arrives in Cleveland to find his aunt, who left Ireland abruptly twenty years earlier and has not been heard from since. He finds her in a mental institution; she refuses to acknowledge him, but her silence may be a hard-won gift. Should he allow family obligations to entangle him or should he embark on a new life in a new country? The reading will be accompanied by the exhibit Industrial Cleveland: Photographs by Grace Kenney.

For her first solo exhibition in Cleveland in three years (her last was the lauded Nervous Bird at 1300 Gallery), Dott Schneider has compiled and completed a series of mixed media paintings and a large-scale installation that represent the impact desert life has left on her as an artist. Through descriptive mark-making and collaborations of salt and other mediums, these new works illuminate her experience as she describes: "This series over any other works I've created holds deep meaning and purpose in my evolution as an artist. It is my connection to and observation of the desert in which I had made my residence and so genuinely love. The burrows are homage to Las Vegas and my three years in her company."
Also, around 9 pm after our current exhibit reception, join us for Jon Finley's last show in Cleveland. Talons (electro) and Confidant will also be performing. |
