Friday, July 27 - Ghost City Searchlight
Ghost City Searchlight plays original music inspired by traditional Celtic and American folk songs infused with raucous energy. Their brand of charismatic folk-punk tells stories that are drawn from the spirit of tall tales heard around the campfire, from the pages of dime novels read under the covers with a flashlight, and from the personal experiences of anyone who feels the deck is stacked against them. You can find out more about them at http://ghostcitysearchlight.com.
Saturday, July 28 -
Bill Edwards
Bill Edwards is a songwriter. You know it for a fact before the first song ends. Whether it's blues-tinged advice or a heart-tugging ballad, Bill knows what makes a great song tick. That talent propelled him to a 1st place finish in the Country division of the BillboardŽ national songwriting contest, and got his song "What'd I Do," co-written with Whit Hill, played on the hit HBO series True Blood. Bill Edwards is also a great performer. Blessed with a warm tenor voice, which can alternately rock out or smoothly caress, he always hits the spots that reach an audience's heart. Years of guitar-slinging in the popular East Coast band Blaze and countless solo performances have honed his chops to where the players in the crowd sit up and take notice. His humorous asides between the songs keep folks entertained and wanting more. Bill divides his musical time between Ann Arbor, Michigan and Nashville, Tennessee. Check him out at www.edwardsongs.com.

Literary Outlaw: The Life and Times of William S. Burroughs (Paperback) By Ted Morgan List Price: $24.95
Our Price: $17.47
(Save: $7.49 30%)
With a new preface as well as a final chapter on William S. Burroughs 's last years, the acclaimed Literary Outlaw is the only existing full biography of an extraordinary figure. Anarchist, heroin addict, alcoholic, and brilliant writer, Burroughs was the patron saint of the Beats. His avant-garde masterpiece Naked Lunch shook up the literary world with its graphic descriptions of drug abuse and illicit sex and resulted in a landmark Supreme Court ruling on obscenity. Burroughs continued to revolutionize literature with novels like The Soft Machine and to shock with the events in his life, such as the accidental shooting of his wife, which haunted him until his death. Ted Morgan captures the man, his work, and his friends Allen Ginsberg and Paul Bowles among them in this riveting story of an iconoclast.
Buddhaland Brooklyn (Hardcover) By Richard C Morais List Price: $25.00
Our Price: $17.50
(Save: $7.50 30%)
"The life of a man is like a ball in the river- no matter what our will wants or desires, we are swept along by an invisible current that finally delivers us to the limitless expanse of the black sea."
So reflects the elderly Buddhist priest Seido Oda as he considers the life that brought him from an idyllic mountainside village in Japan to the bustling streets of Brooklyn, New York- a touching and humorous journey richly depicted in Buddhaland Brooklyn. Oda's boyhood is spent fishing in clear mountain streams, picking plums, and helping his parents run the family's village inn on the slopes of Mount Nagata. But at age eleven, his parents hand him over to the monks at the nearby Buddhist monastery. Separated from his family and deeply lonely, the acolyte adjusts to monastic life by devoting himself to painting, poetry, and prayer-and avoiding human contact. This safe and quiet existence is unexpectedly upended, however, when he reaches middle age and is ordered by his superior to open a temple in Brooklyn. New York is a shock to the introverted Oda. A shy, socially inept Japanese priest who hides his true feelings behind a severe manner, Reverend Oda must spiritually lead the ragtag army of eccentric New Yorkers who make up the local Buddhist community. This motley crew and their misguided practices provide for a host of hilarious cultural misunderstandings and mishaps. But when tragedy strikes, Oda's rigid worldview is shattered and his eyes are finally opened to the long-buried sadness and personal shortcomings in his own life. It is only when he comes to appreciate the Americans, flaws and all, that Oda finds in Brooklyn the home he has always sought. A lively, vivid novel, Buddhaland Brooklyn stirs from the very first page. This is an entertaining and edifying meditation on the meaning and rewards of true acceptance.
