The Steiner Series A Special Crazy Wisdom Salon Series on Anthroposophy and Rudolf Steiner's Work
Four nights in October, 7 p.m. at Crazy Wisdom Tea Room · FREE
Building "A Future Worthy of the Human Being": A Special Crazy Wisdom Salon Series on Anthroposophy and Rudolf Steiner's Work · A century ago, one of the most remarkable human beings of the last millennium, the Austrian-born Rudolf Steiner, undertook to shift the direction of our emerging global civilization. He restored a holistic image of the human being to the center of cultural thought and set out to bring humanity's soul and spiritual resources back into balance with materialistic science, technology, and economics. Trained as a scientist but also a profound esoteric researcher, Steiner developed resources for every individual to evolve herself or himself as a free and creative local change agent in planetary life. In this series of talks/conversations, we will explore his vision, its amazing breadth, and three of its particular applications. Free. For more information, contact Bill Zirinsky at bill@crazywisdom.net, John Beck at editor@anthroposophy.org or Kathy Serafin at kathys@anthroposphy.org.

Oct. 18 * Anthroposophical Medicine with Dr. Molly McMullen-Laird and Eurythmist Susann Herb-Eddy * Steiner's approach to health is a complementary medicine bringing together the outstanding technical skills of modern western medicine with traditional western environmental medicine. It adds a new intuitive approach to health as a totally individual matter where illness is part of our karmic path and the "I" of each patient is a profound agent of healing.

Friday, October 21 - February Sky February Sky is traditional singer and Celtic guitarist Phil Cooper with songwriter and singer Susan Urban. Phil sings and plays his own arrangements of traditional songs and tunes on six string guitar and cittern, and he also interprets a number of carefully chosen songs from the best of modern Folk song writers, as well as backing Susan up on her songs. Susan Urban is a writer of story songs and humorous "slice of life" songs. She accompanies her songs, plus Phil's songs and tunes, on six and 12-string guitar, six string banjo, mountain dulcimer, and hand percussion instruments. Phil and Susan present a combination of old and new songs addressing a wide range of experiences and emotions; their presentation includes vocal harmony, intricate instrumentation and thoughtful stagecraft. They believe that Folk Music is a continuum - whether the songs are self-penned or have a history thousands of years old, as long as they speak to the human condition and the human heart, they carry on the Folk Music tradition. www.februarysky.com

From one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world, a rousing defense of the role of science in our lives
The latest developments in physics have the potential to radically revise our understanding of the world: its makeup, its evolution, and the fundamental forces that drive its operation. Knocking on Heaven's Door is an exhilarating and accessible overview of these developments and an impassioned argument for the significance of science.
There could be no better guide than Lisa Randall. The bestselling author of Warped Passages is an expert in both particle physics (the study of the smallest objects we know of) and cosmology (the study of the largest). In Knocking on Heaven's Door, she explores how we decide which scientific questions to study and how we go about answering them. She examines the role of risk, creativity, uncertainty, beauty, and truth in scientific thinking through provocative conversations with leading figures in other fields (such as the chef David Chang, the forecaster Nate Silver, and the screenwriter Scott Derrickson), and she explains with wit and clarity the latest ideas in physics and cosmology. Randall describes the nature and goals of the largest machine ever built: the Large Hadron Collider, the enormous particle accelerator below the border of France and Switzerland-as well as recent ideas underlying cosmology and current dark matter experiments.
The most sweeping and exciting science book in years, Knocking on Heaven's Door makes clear the biggest scientific questions we face and reveals how answering them could ultimately tell us who we are and where we came from.

Transform your life. Rewrite your destiny. In his most personal novel to date, internationally best-selling author Paulo Coelho returns with a remarkable journey of self-discovery. Like the main character in his much-beloved The Alchemist, Paulo is facing a grave crisis of faith. As he seeks a path of spiritual renewal and growth, he decides to begin again: to travel, to experiment, to reconnect with people and the landscapes around him.
Setting off to Africa, and then to Europe and Asia via the Trans-Siberian Railway, he initiates a journey to revitalize his energy and passion. Even so, he never expects to meet Hilal. A gifted young violinist, she is the woman Paulo loved five hundred years before-and the woman he betrayed in an act of cowardice so far-reaching that it prevents him from finding real happiness in this life. Together they will initiate a mystical voyage through time and space, traveling a path that teaches love, forgiveness, and the courage to overcome life's inevitable challenges. Beautiful and inspiring, Aleph invites us to consider the meaning of our own personal journeys: Are we where we want to be, doing what we want to do?
Some books are read. Aleph is lived.

For the first time, inside sources from the reclusive Priory of Sion--thrust into the limelight by Dan Brown's bestselling The Da Vinci Code--share their best-kept secrets, including proof of the marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdelene. The reason is as sensational as the secrets themselves: the apocalypse foretold in the Book of Revelation, culminating in the emergence of a savior sprung from the bloodline of Christ. Join Robert Howells as he traces the clues to this cataclysm in tombs, temples, churches, manuscripts, and paintings to give readers the truth they need to face the Second Coming without fear.

J. Krishnamurti was renowned for the penetrating insight and immediacy of his spiritual teachings. Radical in his day for seeking truth beyond the boundaries of religion, ideology, or tradition, he declared that "Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever." He traveled and lectured throughout the world, calling for a new approach to life and spirituality.
In this compilation of Krishnamurti's most essential teachings, he explores what he calls "the art of living." The topics addressed include such perennial human concerns as: living life without conflict and confusion, how to act with skill and clarity, the significance of meditation, death and dying, true freedom, and bringing the sacred into everyday life. These timeless teachings guide us to live our lives simply, intelligently, and with great love-free from the bonds of sorrow and fear.
