 The Steiner Series
A Special Crazy Wisdom Salon Series
on Anthroposophy
and Rudolf Steiner's Work

Four nights in October, 7 p.m.
at Crazy Wisdom Tea Room · FREE

Building "A Future Worthy of the Human Being": A Special Crazy Wisdom Salon Series on Anthroposophy and Rudolf Steiner's Work · A century ago, one of the most remarkable human beings of the last millennium, the Austrian-born Rudolf Steiner, undertook to shift the direction of our emerging global civilization. He restored a holistic image of the human being to the center of cultural thought and set out to bring humanity's soul and spiritual resources back into balance with materialistic science, technology, and economics. Trained as a scientist but also a profound esoteric researcher, Steiner developed resources for every individual to evolve herself or himself as a free and creative local change agent in planetary life. In this series of talks/conversations, we will explore his vision, its amazing breadth, and three of its particular applications. Free. For more information, contact Bill Zirinsky at bill@crazywisdom.net, John Beck at editor@anthroposophy.org or Kathy Serafin at kathys@anthroposphy.org.

Oct. 11 * Biodynamics: Nutrition for the Soul, Healing for the Earth with Paul Bantle and Annie Elder of The Community Farm of Ann Arbor * One of Steiner's last initiatives, and a foundation for the organic movement, was biodynamic agriculture. Here, the human being stands as the conscious ego in a farm organism of animals, plants, and soil, open to sun, moon, and stars. The food produced works to support our awareness of interconnected life and of the cosmos.

Friday, October 14 -
Some Velvet Evening

John Holkeboer and Carrie Shepard came together in January of 2008 to perform a set of close harmony duets and original songs for an event they titled "Some Velvet Evening" at the Oak City Grille in Royal Oak, Michigan.  Discovering they had promising vocal chemistry as well as a catchy band name, they set to work developing a repertoire that could thrive in beer gardens and concert halls alike.  Inspired by the works of the great close harmony brother duets such as the Louvins, Delmores and Stanleys, Holkeboer and Shepard write and sing songs about the ups and downs of young love, infidelity and insobriety.  Interweaving their pitch perfect harmony singing and lively stage banter with jangly acoustic guitars and double bass, Some Velvet Evening can fill a room with the sound of laughter and dancing feet.  Holkeboer and Shepard are also the vocal/songwriting duo behind the psychedelic honky-tonk band John Holk & the Sequins.  www.somevelvetevening.com

Millions of Americans today practice the "asanas," or postures, of yoga, but many are unaware of the profound spiritual teachings at the heart of yoga's ancient source scriptures. In this remarkable anthology, acclaimed Vedanta Yoga teacher Dave DeLuca presents 166 sacred passages from some of India's most revered yoga scriptures -- the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras, the Bhakti Sutras, the Astavakra Samhita, and the Srimad Bhagavatam -- along with teachings by two of the most beloved yoga masters of the modern era, Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda. This combination of ancient wisdom and modern commentary makes "Sacred Jewels of Yoga" an invaluable introduction to the scriptural treasures of ancient India and a priceless resource for inspiration, illumination, and guidance.

This useful guide from two of America's preeminent psychics is unique in its focus on individual psychology and interpersonal relationships. It begins with simple meditations during which practitioners learn how to recognize their own psychic energy-and also determine if that energy is constrained.
Psychic Psychology
shows how to free energy through such tools as grounding, clearing psychic enmeshment, and finding the space from which to respond most openly, resourcefully, and generously to life. An entire chapter is devoted to exploring the specific energies men and women have based on their biological differences and helping them to deal with their own energy and that of the other sex.
Friedlander and Hemsher present the everyday usefulness of clairvoyant skills within a big picture where they explain that we create our reality, but do not control it; and that the personality-like the soul-is eternal and always growing.
The final section describes how psychic skills can be applied in real-world contexts, which are often ambiguous and contradictory. The book explores common issues such as dealing with selfdoubt without jumping to unwarranted, blind confidence and how to communicate effectively, with clear boundaries
