This is My Hope. . . .

By Ronda Barney, LCSW, RD

A few years ago, I received a health diagnosis that put my life into quite a spin.  I became sicker and sicker and, over time, I had little strength and could hardly get out of bed. I was unable to care for my dear family, work, or do the things I enjoyed.  My life was turned upside down.  I had lost all sense of normalcy and what I had envisioned for my life. I was fighting desperately for my former life and recovery, but as days turned into months and months into years, I began to lose hope.  Hope that I would ever live without pain, ever be the mom and wife I envisioned, or return to "my" sense of normal.  During this dark time in my life, I was given the gift of three truths that brought a sense of hope and renewal to my life. Animal-Assisted Therapy:  God's Creatures Help His Children Heal

Women and girls come to Timberline Knolls to get help and healing from their eating disorder, addiction or other disorders like anxiety or depression. Each person receives comprehensive therapy designed to get her firmly established on the road to recovery. In addition to family, expressive, spiritual, individual and group therapy, both canine and equine-assisted psychotherapy are also offered. These therapies are very different from one another, yet share one important factor in common: when concentrating on interaction with a dog or horse, our resident is not focusing on herself, her disease, or her problems.
