Hello Market Shoppers!

It looks like the weather will be beautiful for our Bikefest this coming Saturday, May 21st!

In addition to great local food, we will highlight cycling with some special guests.  Hybrid-Cycles will bring some of their power assisted bikes to try- they are amazing!  The Greater Philadelphia Bike Coalition will have information about cycling, and Phoenix Cycles will come on down from 10am to 1pm to check out bikes and helmets to make sure they are ready for the summer.  They will also have information about Phoenixville Bike Schuylkill, a FREE bikeshare program sponsored by the Phoenixville Green Team.

Anyone who rides a bike to the market will receive a coupon to get 25cents off a drink at Artisan's Cafe.  Stop by the Market Information Table to pick yours up!

If you love the Market and want to help let others know about us, please email Liz Andersen at info@phoenixvillefarmersmarket.org.  We could use some help putting signs up at local businesses, manning a table at First Friday, and we are also looking for a few people who live on busy streets to put to put a farmers' market sign in their yard.

See you at the Market!!

Recipe

Grilled Steak Sandwiches with Goat Cheese and Arugula

(serves 4)

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil, for grates
  • 1.5 lbs steak (beef from Birchrun Hills or Bison from Backyard Bison), excess fat removed
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 1 small red onion, sliced 1/2 inch thick
  •   1 baguette, split in half lengthwise
  • 3 ounces fresh goat cheese, room temperature
  • 1/8 cup grainy mustard
  •   1 bunch arugula (about 10 ounces total), stems trimmed
Directions
  1. Heat grill to high; lightly oil grates. Season steaks with salt and pepper; grill 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium-rare. Transfer to a plate; let rest 10 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, grill onion until tender and charred, 4 to 5 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate; separate into rings. (To store, refrigerate steaks and onion, up to 1 day.)

  3. Assemble sandwiches: Thinly slice steaks against the grain. Dividing evenly, spread top halves of bread with cheese, and bottom halves with mustard. Pile steak, onion, and arugula on bottom halves; close sandwiches. Cut each sandwich into quarters, and serve.
