There are too many NEW things this week to include them all, but here are a few:

For those of you who run out of cash at the market, several of our producers are now taking credit cards AND food stamps, including Jack's Farm.  Look for the signs at their stands.    

 

Charlestown Farm is kicking off the season with an abundance of greens!  Spinach, Lettuce Mix, Head Lettuce,Sprouts, Sorrel, Chives, and more will be available this week at market.  They'll also have potted plants, perfect for a Mother's Day gift or your own backyard garden.   

 

ICED by Betsy will have the following flavors at the market this weekend:
PB & C - The most famous taste combination and our best seller! Our signature chocolate cake filed with a rich peanut butter center. Frosted with peanut butter buttercream and topped with a peanut butter cup.
Twisted Lime - My favorite pie turned cupcake! Lime infused cupcake filled with key lime curd. Frosted with key lime cream cheese frosting and topped with graham cracker crumbles and a slice of lime.
It's Nutty, Honey! - A honey and oatmeal cake filled with a sweet honey peanut butter center. Frosted with peanut butter buttercream and topped with sweet & salty peanuts and a drizzle of fresh local honey.
Cinnacake - A sweet vanilla and cinnamon swirl cake filled with cinnamon roll filling. Topped with decadent cinnamon cream cheese frosting and topped with a crispy cinnamon treat.
Parker House Pie - A classic yellow cake filled with vanilla cream custard. Frosted with whipped buttercream and dipped in rich chocolate ganache. Named after the Parker House in Boston, Massachusetts where the pie was first contrived!
Dark Side - A rich dark chocolate cupcake filled with fluffy marshmallow cream. Topped with chocolate ganache, dark chocolate buttercream, and a twirl of marshmallow!

Hello Market Shoppers!
May 7th is the day we have been waiting for, and it looks like the weather will be beautiful for the Opening Day of out tenth season.  We are celebrating with a Festival of the Honey Bee!

Many of our producers have created special items using honey: 
  • Honey pots de creme from LOST Gourmet
  • Honey popsicles from Mompops
  • Honey Lavender Soap from Ellen April
  • Honey granola and honey infused whole wheat bread from St. Peter's Bakery
  • Blue Cheese paired with Honey from Birchrun Hills Farm

  • Honey scented candles from Pure Scents

Honey Recipes

Honey Spring Salad
(from Charlestown Farm)
 
For the Dressing:
3 T yogurt
2 t dijon mustard
1 T local honey
1/2 a lemon, juiced
3 T extra virgin olive oil
2 1/2 T chives, finely chopped
1 1/2 T mint, finely chopped
salt and pepper to taste

For the Salad:
4 oz French Garden zesty sprout mix
8 oz fresh spinach
1/2 C sliced almonds or chopped pisatchios, lightly toasted
1 mint sprig
1 chive blossom
 
Combine dressing ingredients, mix well
In a large bowl gently toss spinach, sprouts (reserve some) and nuts with dressing 
Garnish with reserved sprouts, mint sprig and chive blossom
Enjoy by an open window and taste the sweet green of a long awaited spring

Honey-basted  Pork Roast

(from Hoagland Farms)
 2-3 Lb pork roast
1c brown sugar
1 c water
1/2 c honey
You will prepare the pork roast in slow cooker.
Mix the brown sugar and water and pour over the pork roast.
Baste the roast with the honey.
Cook in the slow-cooker for 4 hours at a High heat setting.
Serve.
