Hello Market Shoppers,
I hear Saturday is going to be cooler... just in time for the Buy Fresh Buy Local Fest at the Market! Don't worry if it is raining; our farmers, bakers and artisans will be there rain or shine, and you can listen to Mason Porter under the protection of the bridge! We are going to have lots of fun activities too.
Buy Fresh Buy Local has been an invaluable organization that has promoted local food across the country. We have a thriving chapter here in Southeastern PA and I have personally enjoyed several of their events! Buy Fresh Buy Local
At the market...
Chef Stephanie Krzywanski will be demoing some cool summer meals! She is currently in the running to win the Sears Chef Challenge and if she wins the first round of voting, Camphill Kimberton will
win $5,000. Voting ends on July 10th, so be sure to vote here everyday.
The market has been wanting to give back and this weekend will be the first of our monthly food drives. Our producers will be donating their products and you can donate too. Any perishable or non perishable items will be donated to the Good Samaritan Shelter in Phoenixville for homeless men. They cook all of their own meals and are very appreciative of the support from our farmers and shoppers.
Also new this week is our monthly producer raffle! On July 31 we will be raffling off a basket filled with goodies from our wonderful farmers and producers. Every raffle entry from now until November will be entered into the Grand Prize Raffle- a Local Farm Fresh Thanksgiving Dinner! In November we will raffle off all the fixins, right down to the turkey for your celebration! You can enter at the market, or by posting on facebook. Like us on facebook for details!
We are a rain or shine market, but some of the activities will be postponed if it is raining Saturday!

Recipe
Despite the less than ideal baking conditions, it just so happens that I have had multiple requests for my famous beet brownie recipe. Not that it is my recipe, I got it from the Gardeners' Community Cookbook, but apparently I talk about it a lot...
Black Raspberry Beet Brownies
Oil for greasing the pan 4 ounces of unsweetened chocolate 8 Tbs butter (1 stick) 4 small trimmed beets, cooked, peeled, and pureed 3/4 cup of black raspberry jam (or other red jam) 2 large eggs 1/4 Tsp salt 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup all purpose flour
1. Preheat the ovento 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 13 by 9 inch pan 2. Place the chocolate and the butter in a saucepan and heat until melted. add the beets and 1/4 c of the jam and whisk until smooth. set aside. 3. Crack the eggs into a large bowl, add the salt, and beat until foamy. Add the sugar and vanilla and whisk until blended. Whisk in the chocolate beet mixture, add the flour, and continue whisking until blended into the batter. Pour the batter into the baking pan. 4. Gently melt the remaining 1/2 cup jam without boiling t and drizzle over the batter. Use a knife to make a swirled pattern, lightly cutting through the batter. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
