What's New....

Mountain View Poultry is now taking orders for pasture raised Thanksgiving turkeys.

The Gold Rush Rush is on at North Star Orchard!  Stake your claim to a share of this year's harvest of amazing Gold Rush apples and varietal Gold Rush apple cider.  Gold Rush are sugary-tart, super-crisp, and make for amazing eating as well as prize-winning pies and sauce.  To top it all off, they keep well, too...up to several months in the fridge.  Gold Rush varietal cider is great to freeze to have on hand for the holidays and during the winter, and it makes fantastic homebrewed hard cider, for those so inclined to do so... but it's available one week only by pre-order. Learn more about The Gold Rush Rush and stake your claim online at:  Gold Rush

(I must add that if you haven't yet had a North Star Asian Pear, they are so tasty and, sadly, almost gone!)

Stargazers Vineyard will be at this week's market, be sure to ask them about their upcoming release of 2009 Dornfelder.

Baues' Busy Bees have a lovely collection of fall and holiday beeswax candles along with their local honey.

Country Time Farm, Great Harvest, Hoaglands, and Whole Hearted Bakery will all return to the market this week.

Hello Market Shoppers!
Despite the rain last week we had a busy day.  We have some super cute entries for our pet contest too!  If you have a lovable pet at home, bring a photo to the market this week and you can win a gift certificate from the market and a gift from Pup Bistro.
We also have a special guest coming this Saturday, LuAnn Roth, will be demonstrating her Kindermusik classes that she teaches in Phoenixville, inspiring a love of music in children for life!
Also, of note, it is time to order turkeys from Mountainview Poultry and Gold Rush Apples from North Star.  Gold Rush apples store very well during the winter and they are only going to be available by preorder and picked up on Nov 14th and Nov 21st.

Recipe
Apple/Pear Chutney
(recipe from North Star Orchard)

1 ½ lbs. fruit (apples, Asian pears, and/or peaches)
1 medium clove garlic, minced
1 T. chopped ginger root (available at Charlestown Farm)
½ c. orange juice
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. cloves
1 t. salt
1 c. honey (more to taste)
1 c. cider vinegar
Cayenne to taste

The mysterious Indian relish, demystified. It's only slightly more complicated to make than applesauce. And you can vary it's sweetness, non-sweetness or relative spiciness according to your own taste. Preparation time should include an hour to simmer and several hours (or even days) to 'ripen' (flavors to meld). Chutney will keep, if packaged in a sterile, sealed jar. Otherwise, it needs to be used in about a week or so.
Coarsely chop the apples (you needn't peel them). Combine everything in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer. Simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally...about 45 min. - 1 hour. Cool before storing in a jar (unless you are canning). Recipe makes about 1 quart.
