What's New....

Mountain View Poultry is now taking orders for pasture raised Thanksgiving turkeys.

Cressley's Greenhouse
is coming to the end of their harvest season.  They will be with us for the next two weeks (or so) with vegetables, pumpkins, and gourds.  You can get pumpkins for the painting activity at Cressley's.

Hoagland Farm will be back this week with fresh veggies, honey, and pork!

Ember and Paul of Countrytime Farms will be away next week- stock up now!

Charlestown Farm has a unique item this week- they will be bringing young, yellow ginger to the market.  This tropical plant made it through the summer and has provided beautiful yellow-pink, marbled orbs of ginger.  They will also have the traditional, larger pieces available.  As for new vegetables, they'll have fennel and bok choy.

Stargazer Vineyards is returning this week with sustainably grown, local wines to taste.

Soaps By Pat will be back at the market with Happiness and Ginger Snap soap as well as room sprays.

It is second Saturday and we have five very talented local artists joining us:  Deb and Rick Reis of Reis Renditions will feature their lovely woodworking, jewelery, and basketry; Tonya Perry of Tonya Lov Jewelery will have  handcrafted porcelain and beaded jewelry; Margaret will have natural, soy-based Pure Scents Candles; Jose Juico will have hand made vases and Ikebana arrangements; Camphill Kimberton Hills will have textiles; and Victoria O'Neill will be hosting a craft in the kids area.  So, that is quite a crew!  You can get more information about everyone throught the links listed below.

Coconut Chicken Soup

When I feel the slightest onset of a cold I always make this soup.  The warming qualities of the ginger, peppers, and garlic; the immune boosting garlic, mushrooms, and chicken stock;  and the cleansing and soothing lemon and coconut sometimes keep the cold from setting in, or at the very least sooth me!

1 Quart of Chicken Stock (homemade or from Mountain View Poultry)
1 1/2 cups of coconut milk
1/4 tsp of pepper flakes (or from hot peppers at the market)
1 clove of minced/pressed garlic
1 tsp of freshly grated ginger
juice of 1 lemon
sea salt or fish sauce
several green onions, finely chopped (optional)
1 tbs finely chopped cilantro
a handful (or more) of a finely chopped dark green, like kale or bok choy
a large handful of Shiitake mushrooms

Perfect for illness- all you have to do is throw everything together and simmer for 10 minutes or so.
A nice alternative is to leave out the coconut milk and add honey to taste.

This recipe adapted from Nourishing Traditions.

Quarryville Orchard will return next week with their fruit, canned goods and cider.
