Dog Treats from Puppy Love!

Right around the time of the China produced dog food recalls two years ago, Carrie Cranmer wanted to feed her two pups Gertie and Lulu the best food possible.  She began making fresh food for them, then for her friends dogs too, and now Puppy Love Homemade has greatly expanded to provide treats for farmers' markets and retail locations.  Puppy Love Homemade specializes in wheat-free and grain free products for dogs with allergies, as well as flavors not readily available in pet stores.  They purchase only human grade ingredients from local farmers, including our own Mountain View Poultry.  "We know your pooch will love these treats as much as ours do!"

It looks like Saturday will be beautiful and we will have the first strawberries of the season!  Spring greens are wonderful, but there is nothing like fresh local fruit ripened right on the plant on which it grows.  Since we are a local, producer-only market, we only offer fruits and vegetables when they are in season so we look forward to enjoying each of the fruits in its time of glory!

Do you make a special meal (or meals) each week with food from the farmers' market?
If so, you might want to participate in One Local Summer, sponsored by Farm to Philly.  You can join in their challenge to eat local for one summer, by registering by May 30th.  Cook one meal a week using local food and you can post information about it on their website!  Click here to learn more.

The New York Times had a great article this week about preserving and canning.  There were recipes for pickled asparagus and sun-cooked strawberry preserves and a  canning video.  You can read the article by clicking here.
