Hello Market Shoppers, It looks like the weather may hold out for us for the third Saturday in a row! We are back at our regular Taylor Alley location behind Family Dollar. It is Memorial Day weekend and I have fervently been digging through magazines and cookbooks looking for that perfect grilling recipe to inspire you this weekend. Well, you know, there are a lot of recipes out there and I got over-inspired and very excited for summer. I am going to point out a couple of good ones and suggest some nontraditional ideas for the grill in the recipe section. This weekend we are looking forward to welcoming back Stargazers Vineyard, children's yoga, and one of our favorite musicians, Chris Adams! Check out the new breakfast and lunch options at the Artisan Cafe tent; the quiche, soup, and sandwich choices change every week. Also, if you are interested in volunteering at the market, we would love some extra hands with set up, break down, the kids area, etc., if so, let us know on market day or by email. See you at the market for beautiful local food and lots of fun!

Recipe
It is Memorial Day weekend, time to clean and oil your grill to get ready for the kick off of summer. Even though there was certainly no shortage of grilling ideas everywhere I looked, I could not resist picking up Adam Perry Lang's book, Serious Barbecue. This book has great ideas for grilling meat and vegetables. It was difficult to choose between the veal, chicken, bison, and pork tenderloin recipes, because at the market we have the highest quality available. However, I did find that a delicious looking recipe from the book for "Adam's Bourbon Glazed Barbeque Turkey" online that you might be interested in trying.
Tips from the book that deserve a mention:
Herb Bundle- Lang takes a bunch of fresh herbs such as thyme, sage, rosemary, or any combination and ties them to the end of a wooden kitchen spoon using twine. It can be used instead of a brush to spread sauce and marinades onto grilling meats and veggies. Finally- a solution to those "skanky brushes".
Apple Juice Spray- 1:1 mixture of apple juice to water added to a spray bottle to spray onto already sauced meats. Adds sheen, carmelization, and it doesn't burn.
Grilled Teriyaki Portabello Mushrooms
for the marinade: 1 TBS dry mustard 2 TBS water 1/2 cup mirin 1/2 cup of tamari or soy sauce 2 TBS sesame oil 4 garlic cloves, minced 1 TBS minced fresh ginger 3 TBS finely chopped scallions, white and green portions 1 TBS sugar 1/2 tsp black pepper
Wisk the mustard and 2 TBS of water together and then add all of the other ingredients. Place together with your desired amount of portabella mushrooms and marinate for at least 1 hour. Grill over low-med heat for 10 minutes, or until soft. Enjoy!
One last thought: Grilled Pizza. I am thinking asparagus, blue cheese, mushrooms, garlic, and some kind of green on mine, let me know what yummy local foods you'll have on yours!
