| Hello Market Shoppers!
Happy 2009! Now that the holidays are over and the days are colder, the Phoenixville Farmers' Market has entered our Winter Market Season. For those of you who are new to the market, our Winter Markets are from 10am to 11am on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. We hold these markets to provide shoppers with local food all year and farmers with ways to sell their delicious products. The best way to make sure that you don't miss any of the great items that will be available is to browse the entire email below. We allow farmers to pick their own method of selling; some bring only pre-ordered items while others bring a variety of products for sale on a first-come-first-served basis.
Here are a few exciting items that we will have this week in addition to our regular buffalo, pork, poultry, veal, cheese, coffee, baked items, & fudge :
Vegetables (yes, local ones!) from Charlestown Farm Lamb from Forks Farm Bagels & Crackers from Whole Hearted Bakery Goat Milk Ricotta from Shellbark Hollow Farm Honey Soap from Baues' Bees
Don't forget to read this email to see what is available, make your list, contact the farmers to place your orders, and then come to our regular location between 10 am and 11 am on Saturday to pick up your delicious, local food. You might even see your neighbors and market friends!
Helpful Hint:
This newsletter is packed with information. You can click on a
vendor's name on the sidebar to go directly to his or her product list.
Please forward
this email to friends and family that you think may be interested in
signing up for our email list so they can participate in our special
Winter Markets. (There is a link all the way at the bottom of the email
to forward it -- thanks!)

Our farm philosophy: Local, fresh, healthy and sustainable. Our goal is to be your local source for fresh, clean, pastured poultry, eggs, beef, lamb, and pork of the highest quality using sustainable farming methods that contribute to the health of our customers, community and environment.
Pasture-raised with no drugs. Our animals grow to maturity on pasture without the heavy grain feeding found in feedlots and confinement facilities today. Pasture raising provides our animals a low-stress, high-quality life, improves the soil, and helps maintain the landscape. We don't believe artificial fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, growth promotants, hormones and antibiotics belong in our food chain, so we don't use them.
Best nutrition for us. Foods raised from naturally-enriched soils and forages without chemical inputs taste better, keep longer, and are more nutritious than the food products you can buy at the grocery store. Our pasture foods are lower in saturated fats, calories, and cholesterol, and are higher in essential fatty acids and vitamins.
Forks Farm will be at the market on selected Saturdays beginning at the end of June.

1 pound ground veal, pork or buffalo
1 large egg
1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
4 lemons, zested and juiced
1/2 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
1/4 bunch fresh flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped to yield 1/4 cup, plus extra for garnish
4 slices white sandwich bread, soaked in 2/3 cup milk, then torn into chunks
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
All-purpose flour, for dredging
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
In a large mixing bowl,
combine the veal, egg, garlic, lemon zest, Parmigiano, parsley, and the
bread chunks, stirring with a wooden spoon until well mixed. Salt and
pepper, to taste. Using your hands, mold the meat mixture into small meatballs,
polpettine, about the size of golf balls. Place the flour in a shallow
bowl and dredge each meatball through the flour, shaking off any excess
flour.
In a 14-inch saute pan, heat the oil over a medium flame until
hot but not smoking. Add the meatballs, and cook over a gentle heat,
turning occasionally, until cooked through and golden brown on all
sides, about 25 minutes. Pour the lemon juice over the meatballs when they are cooked,
making sure that each meatball absorbs some of the juice and lemon
flavor. Garnish with parsley and chili flakes. Serve immediately. |
