Hello Market Shoppers!
The weather should be beautiful tomorrow and the farmers will join us with many late summer vegetables and some fall greens as well. Fruits abound and it is truly the harvest season. This week's recipe is features red peppers. It is a delicious Romesco Sauce, perfect for roasted meats or as a dip for bread. It's at the bottom of this email.
As most of you probably know, sustainability is a core value of our market. Our farmers work to be environmentally and economically sustainable. PASA, the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, provides support for farmers and consumers through a variety of educational programs and networking opportunities. In fact, sevral of our farmers serve on the PASA board. Next week, PASA is having a fund raising dinner at the beautiful Longwood Gardens. Dinner will include locally raised food, Philadelphia's own Bluecoat Gin, and Stargazers wine. Tickets are still available at www.pasafarming.org or by calling Marilyn Anthony, PASA Southeast Regional Director at marilyn@pasafarming.org or 610-458-5700 ext 305. You can read a full description of the dinner at the bottom of this email.
Next week we will have our annual Fibers Fest featuring local spinners and wool products. Angels Wool Farm will return with their delightful angora rabbits. This is a great event for children and families and children will have a chance to try their hand at spinning wool!
Music this week will be by the fabulous, local singer-songwriter Cliff Hills! Cliff has a new CD coming out soon - - his CD release party is set for Oct 11 @8PM at Steel City Coffeehouse.
We encourage you to BYOB - bring your own bag -- and if you do, you can enter a raffle to win Market Dollars that you can spend with any vendor. Starting this Saturday, each week that you BYOB to the market, stop by the market table and fill out a raffle. Each week we will draw a winner and hand over the market money!
Finally, please remember not to park in the Family Dollar parking lot
-- they've had police officers there ticketing market shoppers lately.
There is plenty of free parking available in the Justice Center lot,
just across the alley from the Family Dollar lot. We realize that some shoppers may have conditions that make it hard for them to walk from the Justice Center lot, so we have designated 2 disabled spots close to the market.

We will attempt to bring the following items to the market this week. Last week I hurt my foot. I can't do marathon standing just yet. Also, we are down one baker. Until we can hire someone else to bake our cookies we will stick to the basics. Anyone interested in baking for us part time? Come talk to us! Pies: peaches are almost done. We will freeze some local low spray peaches to extend the season but that will not last too much longer. This week we will have apple pies made with low spray Smoke House Apples from Sanatoga, peach pies made with peaches from Coatesville, and try to break out some pumpkin pies and maybe even some pecan. Our new and improved Sticky Buns Our sell out Sour Cream Cherry Scones This week's Muffin flavor - TBD but most likely Banana Coconut. Chocolate Cherry Pecan Biscotti and gluten free Chocolate Hazelnut Naughty Biscotti Our usual selection of cakes: Carrot, Banana, Jewish Apple, & Chocolate Limited Cookie Selection: Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Raisin Oaties, & Celtic Shortbread. We will try to turn some of our other flavors, like Vegan Chocolate Chip. Next week we will have two friends helping us - my good friend, Deb, a most excellent cookie baker, and Kell, Sarah's friend. My foot should be much better, too. All factors should combine to help us get back in our groove! Please go to our website, www.WholeHeartedBaking.com to read my thoughts and get updated on what is happening in our lives and business.

Forks Farm John and Todd Hopkins |
Our farm philosophy:
Local, fresh, healthy and sustainable. Our goal is to be your local
source for fresh, clean, pastured poultry, eggs, beef, lamb, and pork
of the highest quality using sustainable farming methods that
contribute to the health of our customers, community and environment.
Pasture-raised with no drugs.
Our animals grow to maturity on pasture without the heavy grain feeding
found in feedlots and confinement facilities today. Pasture raising
provides our animals a low-stress, high-quality life, improves the
soil, and helps maintain the landscape. We don't believe artificial
fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, growth promotants, hormones and
antibiotics belong in our food chain, so we don't use them.
Best nutrition for us.
Foods raised from naturally-enriched soils and forages without chemical
inputs taste better, keep longer, and are more nutritious than the food
products you can buy at the grocery store. Our pasture foods are lower
in saturated fats, calories, and cholesterol, and are higher in
essential fatty acids and vitamins.

Local Food Lovers and Friends of the Farmer--- Come Together to Celebrate the Harvest Season! We welcome you to join the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) on Friday evening, September 26, 2008 at the first Harvest Celebration to be held at Longwood Gardens as we take time to applaud the bounty of local foods available in the Southeastern region of our state. We'll begin enjoying drinks and appetizers in the Idea Garden at 6PM, while the evening sun illuminates the beauty of the annual and perennial flowers, roses, vegetables, fruits, ornamental grasses and container gardens. All the while, captivating live acoustic music will enhance this enchanting experience. We'll also commemorate the 25th anniversary of the White Dog Café with an award presentation to founder and food activist Judy Wicks who is an inspiration to so many people.
