COMIC CON 101 |
Why limit the excitement of a Con to once-a-year at the Javits? Libraries are figuring out how to bring the amazing Con experience to teens at their local library. Join us for a morning filled with ideas from vendors, resources from local programers/performers and advice from librarians who have hosted successful Con events in their local libraries.
You too can create a highly dynamic, interactive, and very popular event for your teens. Learn how:
When: Tuesday October 30, 2012 10:00 AM to 12 Noon (Coffee at 9:30 AM)
Where: SCLS Auditorium
Who: Open to all interested library staff
2 hours professional development will be awarded to attendees.

Off the Shelf | "He's right Mike. It's not fair that a bad kid would get more than a good kid." "Well, I'll just put a call in to the life-isn't-fair-police"
Full disclosure: I am a Doug TenNapel fan. I love his characters, wild and inventive, but still possessed with a "humanity" shining through the weirdness. Cardboard tells the story of an out-of-work father, who gives his son a cardboard box as a birthday gift. When the neighboring bullies discover the magic properties of the cardboard, many complications ensue. Filled with bizarre cardboard characters, wild action, and plenty of heart, this is another winner from the author of Ghostopolis and Monster Zoo.
"Let me make it in time. Let me meet Shadow. The guy who paints in the dark. Paints birds trapped on brick walls and people lost in ghost forests"
Australian author Cath Crowley's lyrical Graffiti Moon introduces readers to Lucy, a young artist who has become obsessed with the work of Shadow, a graffiti artist. She enlists the help of Ed and Leo the poet on her quest to personally meet Shadow. Told through the voices of Lucy, Ed, and Leo, we follow the quest to find beauty, poetry and maybe love in the after-dark streets of Melbourne. A story that will charm its way into your heart.

Montauk to Melville: Taking It On the Road
|
Bad Kitty has been one very busy feline!
He was spotted prowling around the new Smithtown Library and in true cat fashion, made himself very comfortable on top of the furniture!
Not one to miss out on a great photo op, he visited Cold Spring Harbor Library, Northport Public Library, and the Fall Festival at Sachem Public Library.
How much fun can one cat have? Check out his adventures on the Youth Services blog: Montauk to Melville.
Book a visit to your library. They would love to come visit you!
