Which title is your favorite? Which title will be a favorite with your teens?
Assemble your teams and begin planning for the sixteenth annual Battle of the Books to be held on August 11, 2012.
Invoices will be sent to all participating libraries during the first week of July.

Girl in the Park prize package
Central Park:  The body of Wendy Geller, student at exclusive Alcott high school is found dead. Wendy was the wild one. The girl who would do anything to be noticed.
Nico Phelps:  Boyfriend of popular student Sasha. Did he leave the party with Wendy?
Rain Donovan:  Born with a cleft palate, Rain is careful to remain quiet and in the background. She and Wendy were childhood friends, but things have changed.

This tautly wound mystery will keep readers turning pages as secrets are uncovered.  Great read!

Post a favorite book where the action takes place "after dark" and you could win a signed copy of The Girl in the Park, by Mariah Fredericks and some neon pencils. Bonus: book was signed on the publication date.

A Story! A Story!  Oh, What a Story!
 Above cover
Together, Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton, and Brenna Yovanoff comprise The Merry Sisters of Fate, an online short story-writing collaborative. They explore ideas, and discuss their work.
A collection of their stories, drawings, and commentary has been published as The Curiosities: A Collection of Stories. The commentary is as fascinating as the individual contributions. Here is Maggie's comment on one of Brenna's stories:

"A lot of short stories go like this. There is a girl. There is a man and he is bad. Terrible things happen to the girl, and she is never the same. A lot of Brenna's short stories go like this: There is a girl. There is a man, and he is bad. The girl is worse, and the man stops breathing. Sometimes I'm afraid of Brenna, but mostly I'm glad I'm a girl."

Summer at Forsaken Lake cover
Violet is a princess unlike the ones you read about in stories. She is not pretty. No glowing amber skin with beautifully-shaped eyes, long lustrous tresses, and tiny feet. She is exactly the opposite.
When her father captures a dragon and brings it back to the castle, things begin to go dreadfully wrong: her mother dies, war is at hand, and an evil being threatens to destroy everything and everyone.Iron Hearted Violet by Kelly Barnhill is filled with dragons and magic and humor and language that you will feel compelled to quote.

"Scientists and poets are cut from the same bright fabric: They pull at the threads of truth from the edges of our understanding and weave them into the center; they wind bright knots, as tight as vises, binding idea to idea to idea; theyh cast their filaments ever outward and link our souls to the stars."  From the author's  acknowledgments
