Stay Up
Now there are sixteen.  That's right.  SIXTEEN  fabulous authors will be at this year's Authors Unlimited.  The challenge will be to select which sessions you want to attend. Will it be an author who is new to you? The author of a book that you totally enjoy?

To help you choose, we are offering a special late-night reading package: a Shel Silverstein batty bookmark, an ultra-mini booklight, and some peppermint hot chocolate mix. Reading at night never was so much fun!

Which book by one of our 16 authors kept you up at night? Post your answer on Facebook for a chance to win the Stay Up Prize.

Post about the book that made you "stay up and read" on Facebook
this time it is personal

The February 5, 2012 program for YA library staff is one you won't want to miss and one that
you will not soon forget. We will put a very personal face on Cyberbullying:
"Stories of Substance", a professional acting troupe will present dramatizations of stories submitted by teens who understand first-hand the pressures of bullies and cyberbullies.
A group of teens from Westhampton Beach High School will present their findings from a survey of online habits that teens created.  This will open your eyes!
Be sure to register for this excellent program.
  • When: Monday, February 6, 2012  1:00 pm (please note time)
  • Where: SCLS Auditorium
  • Who: All staff members interested in teens and online safety

South Country FUN
South Country teens create.Kathleen Kellenberger knows how to plan and conduct great after-school programs.
Because the middle school is within walking distance of South Country Library, Kathleen is proactive, and plans programs with high interest for this age group.  Each month she rotates with a weekly craft, movie, gaming, and book activity. In addition, she has
homework space  for young teens when they complete the program. Parents show up at about 5 p.m. and find happy young teens who have enjoyed some down time and already have the jump on nightly homework.
Teens enjoy Kathleen and can't wait to see her at the end of a busy school day. Great work Kathleen!

Summer Nights: Video Challenge
South Country teens create. Get out those Flip cameras: It's time to plan for the 2012 Summer Reading Video Challenge.

To enter, teens ages 13 to 18, working individually or as a team, create a 30- to 90-second video that's based on CSLP's 2012 teen slogan, "Own the Night." One New York teen will win $275 and a $150 prize will go their local public library. Winners will be announced next spring.

For more details, visit
the website . And if you're curious about past champs, visit CSLP's "2011 Winners Page."
riends with Boys is Coming Soon!
Mark your calendar for February 28 and get ready for Friends with Boys, the fantastic new comic from Faith Erin Hicks. Many of us have been following the webcomic story of Maggie: experiencing her first year of high school, coping with three older brothers, accepting with the loss of her mother, and encountering a ghost!
Her fantastic art was featured on the cover of the September YA Meeting folder. Recent titles from Hicks include The War at Ellsmere, the ultimate in girls boarding school relationships, and last year's creepy Brain Camp.
Finally Friends with Boys will be here to help you celebrate Leap Year: February 28, 2012!
Get ready!  A chance like this only comes every four years.
