Steampunk board game
Steampunk:011

Elfin Werks and Scribabs are joining forces to create a new steampunk board game: 011. The game, designed for 3-6 players, ages 12 and up takes about 90 minutes to play. Players control 8 mysterious characters who are working together to stop the evil wolf-god Fenrir. One of the eight is the "Chosen One", who can accomplish the task and one of the eight will betray his friends, in exchange for immortality.
Look for it later this year.

 Marketing to Teens

Suffolk YA Librarians tried out some new marketing techniques Linda & Katherine on the computersat our March 15 meeting. Innovative methods to promote Summer Reading Programs included:  library-wide campaigns using buttons, photographic scavenger hunts, interactive posters, and  Q R codes directing teens to view book trailers, access websites, text messages, and phone numbers.
Following the presentation, attendees headed to the computers in the training room and created Q Codes and posters to use in promoting their individual library's programs.

Color hair extensionsSeveral attendees tried out the hair extensions, courtesy of Bella Filia Salon.  Here is an interesting way to use a popular look.  Teens wearing hair extensions can market cool things available at a local library.  Look out for the Suffolk YA librarians walking around with pink, lavender, and blue hair extensions.  They look fantastic!

National Poetry Month
Guyku

April means that it is time for poetry! The National Academy of Poets offers many suggestions to help you celebrate a month of poetry. Try: poetry slams, an open mike night, a writing workshop,

posting poems on your display monitors, creating a poetry map with photos and short videos of places featured in poems.
April 14 is "Poem in Your Pocket" day. Offer a copy of a short poem to each patron that day.

Make the poetry fun!   Bobczka's Guyku is a great place to start.

 Dystopia to the Max

Divergent coverI recently read Divergent by Veronica Roth and this story had me totally under its spell from page one.

Tris lives in a dystopian world where everyone is assigned to a faction based on personal abilities and interests. Tris has selected to leave Amity, the faction of her family and join with Dauntless, the faction devoted to fearlessness at all costs. The initiation is brutal: a life filled with violence and constant physical and mental challenges. As she faces these tests, Tris also battles another foe.  She is a Divergent, an individual who possesses an equal aptitude in more than one faction.

Readers who relish the graphic violence and exploration of moral issues found in The Hunger Games may find a new favorite with Divergent.

Cinema Tie-Ins
