Quidditch Anyone ?

Want to view a REAL LIVE Quidditch game? On November 13 and 14 high school and college teams will be competing at Middlebury College in Manhattan. This very aggressive sport is not for wimps. "Some people still think it's a joke, but when they watch it, they're shocked at how physical it is," says Aimee Howarth, founder of a team.

I like the search feature, previews, and ability to view pages or panels. You can keep a favorite list going as well as see what's new each week. The images look good.

 Fun at ComicCon
Several intrepid Suffolk librarians braved the crowds and the craziness that is New York ComicCon. We were able to snag some of the latest graphic novels, preview new games, and dance with Michael Jackson - not to mention several panel presentations geared for librarians. We left our capes at home - but had a great time anyway.

Story of Epic Proportions
Gareth Hinds has graphically re-envisioned Homer's epic poem in this exquisite adaptation of The Odyssey. Hind gives the tale the heft and depth that the story demands. While both text and the dialog is readable and easily accessible, the poetic language of the original shines through, giving the story a classic feel. The illustrations are magnificent. Gods are human enough to be believable, while retaining the characteristics which make them gods: the cyclops" menacing eye, Athena's warrior stance and flashing grey eyes, and manipulative Calypso. Realistic Aegean area backgrounds provide an excellent sense of place.
Wish this book had been available when I was in high school!
