Teen Spaces
Margie Hartough has been patiently waiting for the teen area at Half Hollow Hills Community Library to be completed. The area is near completion and worth the wait. Using the existing space, shelving was reconfigured to create a special area just for young adults. A custom counter was created for computers, contemporary seating and even the teen librarian desk were color- coordinated. Teens now have their own space to read, study and relax. Margie has also worked with the staff to create outstanding displays and posters. Using foam board, she has created dimensional posters to highlight special interest areas of the teen collection. Whenever possible, Margie displayes books with covers facing out for easy browsing. This inviting new area has caught the attention of teens who enjoying this space created especially for them.
Looks great, Margie!
Be sure to view Half Hollow Hills' prize-winning video.

Five Reasons to Read Comics in 2008
The list of graphic novels published this year keeps growing. I have lots of new favorites. This list represents a "something for everyone" compilation. Maybe one of the following titles will pique your interest.
Kazune Kawahara's High School Debut is a great choice for shojo fans. Haruna
has been solely interested in softball. Now she wants a boyfriend and decides to enlist the aid of a "boyfriend" coach. Too cute! Too funny!
Japan Ai: A Tall Girl's Adventures in Japan is a wonderful treat for all lovers of cosplay. Aimee Major Steinberger's journal of her trip to Japan is brimming with great costume ideas, information on the country, and humor. This is a title not to miss.
If you like the super hero genre, be sure to check out Silver Surfer:Requiem by Michael Straczynski. It features breath-taking art and a touching story.
Cairo by G Willow Wilson is set in the Middle East and the conflict serves as a backdrop for an action-packed story with memorable characters, mythology, humor, drama, and romance. You'll meet a genie in a hookah!
Raymond Briggs' Gentleman Jim is a little British gem that poignantly portrays a man who has spent his life cleaning toilets and dreaming of a more exciting life.
Please consult the SCLS Professional Collection for a complete listing of all titles available for examination. Online reviews available at SCLS Reads and Paperback Preview.
