Sheikh al-Mufid: Author of Kitab al-Irshad

Sheikh al-Mufid was born in the year 338 A.H. and was brought up in a village. His father brought him to Baghdad for his education. There he studied under Shi'i and Mu'tazili scholars. He showed such promise that one of his teachers recommended that he study under one of the leading scholars of the period, 'Ali b. 'Isa al-Ramani. He also studied under the leading Shi'i traditionists of the time, al-Shaikh al-Saduq.

Al-Mufid soon became one of the foremost scholars of his time. He was an outstanding theologian and jurist, and a brilliant polemical writer on behalf of the Shi'ites.

Islamic School Hosts Junior Police Academy

"There are many misconceptions about the faith of Islam and Muslims in the community, not (unlike) the police," said RCMP community outreach Sergeant Derek McDonald, adding that both bear negative stereotypes.

The RCMP was part of a different outreach program that came to the school last year. So when the opportunity came to start a junior police academy, McDonald said, they went for it with the aim of building on their already established relationship.

Muharram 1433 Appeal - Alims for Islamic Centers
Muharram 1433 (2) This Muharram, Ashra majalises, to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), were held in most of the new Islamic centers funded by The World Federation and NASIMCO initiatives across Pakistan's flood affected areas. This is a huge achievement.

The Hussaini Foundation reported that:
"The villager's behaviour towards their own future is turning positive as they are sending their children to these Islamic Centres. Now is the time to seriously consider the appointment of religious guides in the centres that are ready."

Provide Islamic guidance to the children of Pakistan's flood affected areas by sponsoring an Alim and donating generously. Click here to donate towards the appeal or click on the poster for more information.

Interfaith Event - IMAN, Seattle

The Ithnasheri Muslim Association of the Northwest (IMAN) invited the members of the All Pilgrims Church to watch the movie "A History of God", based on Karen Armstrong's book. The event took place at the IMAN center on Saturday, November 19th, 2011. The aim of the event was to build strong relationships between the two congregations.

"A History of God" details the history of the three major monotheistic traditions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam as well as the evolution of the idea of God. The event started with Maghrib prayers, followed by opening remarks from Br. Syed Wasti, an executive member of IMAN. The members of both communities watched the movie, which was then followed by group discussions. The event ended with closing remarks from Pastor Greg and Br. Jawad Khaki.

The event was successful where members of both communities were able to enjoy an opportunity to discuss their thoughts and ideas.
