DISCOVERING ISLAM

Arba'een

"In the first Arba'een gathering in the year 62 AH, Jabir ibn Abdullah, a companion of the Prohet, was one of the people who performed a pilgrimage to the burial site of Husayn. Due to his infirmity and probable blindness, he was accompanied by Atiyya bin Saad. His visit coincided with that of the surviving female members of the Prophet's family and Husayn's son and heir Imam Zain-ul-Abideen, who had all been held captive in Damascus by Yazid I, the Umayyad Caliph. Imam Zain-ul-Abideen had been too ill to participate in the Battle of Karbala. He later devoted his life to Azadari and spreading the message of Imam Hussain's supreme sacrifice."

"Chinese workers belonging to a commercial company in south of Iraq, are helping Shiite pilgrims commemorating the 'martyrdom' of Imam Hussain by building tents for them as they journey to Karbala on foot.

Marking the 40th day after the 'martyrdom' anniversary of Imam Hussein grandson of the Prophet Mohammad, the pilgrims will take the trip on foot to show tribute to the 'martyred' Imam.

...Oun added that 'the event which will take place in Karbala does not belong to Muslims and is the concern of the whole humanity.'"

Ahlulbayt TV - Fundraiser Update

On December 19th, Ahlulbayt TV held a fundraising event in Toronto which was well attended by viewers, officials and representatives from NASIMCO and many other organizations. The program began with a recitation of the Holy Quran and Hadith-e-Kisa. After a short presentation, which included a special video "sneak peak" of the channel's programs, Sayed Mahdi Al-Modarresi took the opportunity to explain the importance of spreading the message of Islam and answering the call of Imam Hussein (AS) in every part of our lives.

After a three course meal enjoyed by the guests, there was a fundraising auction of tickets to sporting events, professional photography packages, smart phones and beautiful Islamic artwork. The fundraising event was successful due to the generous donations from around the world, with live pledges coming from Nigeria, Kuwait and Lebanon. The total amount raised was over $150,000.
