Ya Sakina Breath of Life Appeal
NASIMCO under the patronage of The World Federation, and in partnership with Imamia Medics International (UK) and the Al-Hakim Foundation is launching the "Ya Sakina (AS) Breath of Life Appeal" to raise funds to purchase 1,000 nebulizers for the children of Iraq.

In 2009, over 3,000 children in Iraq died from complications caused by the lack of treatment for asthma. Hospitals are experiencing an increased shortage of medicines and nebulizers for asthma patients in Iraq. At the same time, the rising prices of available treatment from private pharmacies are unaffordable.

Ya Sakina Appeal

NASIMCO is appealing to all brothers and sisters around North America to help a child in Iraq breathe. Most of the asthma-related deaths last year could have been prevented. Your donation to the Ya Sakina (AS) Breath of Life Appeal will save lives. The cost of one nebulizer is $55 CAD/$50 USD. Please donate today.

Ashura Day Bombings
NASIMCO was saddened to hear the news and condemns the acts of violence and cruelty that occurred on the day of Ashura.

About 60 people have been killed and more than 160 wounded in violence targeting Ashura, including attacks in Baghdad. On Ashura day, there was an attack in the village of Taza Kharmatu near Kirkuk, in which a bomb ripped through a juloos procession. The attack came a day after bombs struck separate Ashura processions in Baghdad.

Similarly, at least 25 people were killed and scores critically injured in suicide attack on a juloos procession passing in Karachi, on Ashura day. This attack followed an overnight attack in Muzzafrabad, Azad Kashmir, killing and injuring many.

We request Surah Fateha for those killed in Iraq and Pakistan, and to remember their families in your duas. May Allah give them the strength to bear their loss. Ameen.
Funeral of Marhoom Ayatollah Montazeri
It is with deep sorrow that NASIMCO learned of the passing away from this temporal abode of a renowned scholar, a symbol of piety, an epitome of God-consciousness: Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri (RA).

Ayatollah Montazeri passed away at his home in the city of Qom on Sunday, Decmber 20th, at the age of 87 years, from a heart attack.
He served as a leader of the Friday prayers and a member of the Revolutionary Council in the early years of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. He was once designated as a successor to the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini and was instrumental in instituting Iran's new constitution.

Ayatollah Montazeri

Ayatollah Montazeri was buried on December 21st in Qom. Tens of thousands of people attended his funeral procession. The Shias are left without one of their beloved leaders, a selfless devotee to Islam. May Allah grant him a position close to the Ahlul Bayt. We request all believers to recite Surah Fateha.
Inter-Faith Event - Toronto
On December 6th, the Toronto Jamaat's Tabligh Committee embarked on a trip to Niagara Falls to see the illuminated Kaaba that formed part of the "Festival of Lights". A total of 120 members participated in this event and were hosted by Al-Mahdi Center of Niagara Falls.

The trip included tabligh objectives such as building unity, understanding and love among the Shias of Ahlul Bayt. There was recitation of the holy Quran, Jamaat prayers followed by a Lebanese Dinner. The video and audio facilities available on the buses were utilized to show the weekly Islam in Focus-TV Programs and thus brought about heightened awareness of Outreach Initiatives. For those living outside Canada, the shows can be viewed online at www.islaminfocus.org.

The Ahlul Bait Assembly of Canada that has done an excellent job in showcasing the Kaaba and tawaaf as part of the Festival of Lights. Indeed, the exhibition presented Islam in a very positive light.

Appeal by Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya
The drought that has recently affected many parts of Kenya has also spread to the region of Ukambani where Bilal Centers are located, about 200 kilometers from Mombasa. To observe the actual situation, a delegation from Bilal Muslim Mission visited the centers in Ukambani in August of 2009.

The people of Ukambani are left without food. Many are forced to sell their main source of income - livestock, otherwise watch as they die of starvation. Worried parents are sending their children to urban areas in search of low-paying jobs, to prvide the family as much relief as possible.

BMM of Kenya

The month of Muharram has set in, and once again we relive the thirst and hunger of the martyrs. As we remember their suffering, let us spare a thought for our brethren in Ukambani. By extending a helping hand, we can do justice to the memory of our beloved Imam. Your donation of only $25 CAD/$21 USD can provide one individual a monthly ration of maize. Please donate today.
