#1 - Create a "Peace" Account
A "peace" account is a bank account or envelope (with cash) that you use for a specific purpose to create peace in a certain expense area. For instance, grandparents may have peace accounts set up to buy things for their grandchildren. Others may have a peace account for clothes/shoes, etc., or perhaps a miscellaneous entertainment account. A peace account could be set up for anything that you may need to ensure that you don't overspend or feel guilty. By doing this, you will have created intentional spending which, in turn, brings an abundance of peace. I would encourage you to fund that account with the proper amount on each of your pay cycles. This is the tricky part - what is the right amount? Maybe your entire income is already spoken for - so you will get a second job to fund your peace account. Definitely, I would encourage you to use technology with online banking and debit cards, but be sure you can manage your bank balance so as to not incur overdraft fees. You may decide it's better for you to use cash to ensure no overspending. The key is - know thyself to help create a spending account that truly creates "peace".
#2 - Know Your Personal Financial Picture
We can achieve peace through knowing our personal financial picture. When we don't see the big picture, our fears take over and the picture can appears bleak and overwhelming. At a minimum, make a habit of spending 5 minutes every day or one-half hour per week on your finances to maintain a clear picture of where you stand financially. It may be helpful to look at all your income and bills in a summary format and create a plan to pay them when due. I encourage you to pay your bills on your pay day. If this seems hard or not your cup of tea, please you should seek out someone to help you. Leverage someone in your circle of friends for help or I can help with my three month intensive financial planning solutions package. See below.
