Don't worry, you didn't miss a newsletter...
I skipped an issue to keep up with some deadlines (and figured with kids getting out of school and all the glorious weather) you wouldn't mind.

What's new?
Well if you are following me on Twitter TheWineDiva or on my Facebook group, WineDiva you'll have noticed some WineDiva.ca and WineScores.ca reviews popping up.
We have built a super-cool new application for all you Facebook users, suitably called called "My Favourite Wines".
It's so easy to use.
Every one of my reviews (on both sites) has a Facebook button attached to each wine review. When you see a wine you like, click on the Facebook button under the wine and it will lead you through to a Facebook sign-in page. Sign in as you usually would and follow the prompts. You can post that wine (along with its bottle shot) to your wall, write your own review, share it with your friends and build your own cellar page with all of your "My Favourite Wines". Now, when your friends come over they can simply look at your "My Favourite Wines" page and know what wine to bring!

And if you haven't already picked up the summer Vines Magazine grab one - there are some great articles on Pinot Noir and summer burgers as well as my trip to South Africa's Hemel-en-Aarde, Walker Bay wine district.

Cheers,
Daenna

Wine Diva - in the pink this summer
Espelt Corali Rose Emporada DO Spain, 2008

Espelt rose

This chic rose is made from Garnacha and will pair nicely with your summer tapas. It's a cranberry-hued rose that releases a bounty of summer berry aromas as well as candied citrus, tobacco and fine cedar box spice notes. Fresh on the palate, highlighted with wild strawberries and tart current flavours, and there's plenty of spice and citrus peel throughout....

 A summer of sippers...

DF amicitia white

Crisp summer whites, blends, roses and bubbles from British Columbia and around the world....

Dunham Froese "Amicitia White", Okanagan Valley BC, 2008 is a fragrant compilation of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Viognier, and I like it even more than the 2007 vintage.
Juicy white peach and pink grapefruit hints of warm spice and caramel, jalapeno and grass clippings with exotic floral and honey tones. The palate is smooth and rounded with layers of sweet fresh, white fruit and herbal flavours. Tart citrus and fine spice linger on the finish.
Very good!

$25 BC

 More on McLaren Vale!
Kangarilla Road, Wirra Wirra and Penfolds Magill Estate...

Grange library line-up

There are worse things you can do on your last day touring McLaren Vale than enjoy a tasting and dinner at the illustrious Magill Estate. With a free Friday evening on my hands, I was tickled pink to have the opportunity to sample the wines and tour the cellars at this Adelaide city estate....

It's easy enough to find out the colourful history of one of the Vale's most famous wineries - Wirra Wirra. Google does the trick nicely. You'll discover that it was started by an eccentric Cricket player (with an amusing name) called Robert Stangways Wigley in the late 1800s. When Wigley passed away in 1924 his beloved winery fell into poor condition and essentially abandoned. It was not until 1969 when Greg Trott and his cousin Roger saw the possibilities in this sad estate that it's history began again...

...Interestingly enough, the sharing of facilities was something I was really impressed with in McLaren Vale. Sharing either a tasting room with another winery or the winery and it' cellars. It makes perfect economical sense if everyone gets along and follows the rules. Kangarilla Road shares their winery with one of my favorite producers - Gemtree.

 Pink and deadly?
 tools of the trade

Saber

Deadly only to those sparkling wine bottles awaiting decapitation...
Yep, it finally arrived, my hand- made saber, with pink (of course) handle perfect for lopping the heads off any bubbly bottle that I can wrap my paws around.
Laguiole, the prestigious producer of knives, corkscrews, cutlery, sabers and canes is located in Laguiole, in the South of France. But Vincent Calsat has started a website here in Vancouver called laguiole-passion.com and is selling some sabers and products locally and has a list of retailers that sell the Laguiole products on his site. You can also chose your own hand-made style from a selection of wood, acrylic or stone.
All I can say is it beats wacking the corks out using the base of my wine glasses.
And swinging pink looks far more impressive...
