Germany part 3 - The Mosel
 and more summer sippers...

Sign up For My Free Newsletter (email address)

You can't deny we still need summer sipping options with this heat. So, I thought it was a good idea to lavish you with more - these are new wines I've reviewed since mid-June either because they were later releases or I missed them the first time.
There are 2 pages of them - around 35 - so pace yourself.

And, with part 3 of A New Riesling Generation I bid auf wiedersehen to Germany in the Mosel~Saar~Ruwer. I'll certainly miss it but I have a feeling I'll be back someday.
Leaving Germany means I'll be returning to Italy to complete my tour of the central regions of Abruzzo, Marche, Tuscany and Umbria over the next month - what treats I have in store for you!

I have also updated my Newsletter page - Now you'll find not only all my previous newsletters (in case you missed any) but all the wines I have reviewed on The Tasting Room Radio since February 2008 as well as all the wines I have taken with me onto BT on CityTV this year - stay tuned I'll be back for some more visits to City TV soon.

And a big wine-stained thanks to you readers who not only pass on all of Wine Diva's newsletters and url, but visit on a regular basis.
WineDiva.ca and WineScores.ca are pulling in 100,000+
hits per week!
Cheers! And keep drinking (er...visiting).

 Germany part 3
 Mosel~Saar~Ruwer

Bernkastel Village You'll know as you enter the Mosel River Valley that this is a beautiful, special place.
Your breath will catch, and perhaps you'll hear strains of Wagner dancing in your head. Lush vineyards blanket the sharply rising slopes on either side of the river as you drive the narrow meandering highway that runs about 180 km between Koblenz and Trier.
Along the way, the picturesque villages of Cochem, Piesport, Zell and Bernkastel-Kues as well as the village of Mulheim an der Mosel - a short four kilometer bike ride away from Bernkastel~Kues...

 NEW! Just arrived
 J.H Selbach 'S' Riesling, 2007

Selbach S Just arrived - a new Riesling (with screw-cap) from J&H Selbach - pale straw in colour with clean crisp aromas featuring lemon, white peach and white grapefruit, slate with a hint of smoke, warm honey and undertones of lemony herbs. The palate kicks off with snappy, zesty acidity, a pop of sweetness rolls in mid- palate and the finish is mouth-watering with a bit of grapefruit pith. Clean, off-dry, very refreshing and what a great linger.
Yum!

8th Generation Vineyards Riesling, Okanagan BC, 2006

8th Generation Riesling The name 8th Generation refers to the eight generations of Schales family who have dedicated their lives to winemaking - starting in Germany in 1783 and now continuing in Summerland. One of the Okanagan's newest wineries 8th Generation is showing promise.
The Riesling reminds me of the dry Rieslings being made (and consumed) in Germany right now. Loads of green apple and mineral aromas, citrus peel, honey and peach skin notes. Zippy and fresh on the palate with spritzy lemon, lime zest and ripe white fruit flavours - smacking good.

about $20 in select BC private wine stores -
in Vancouver try: Firefly, Marquis, Broadway Int. and some Liberty stores.

Nk'Mip Cellars Pinot Blanc, Okanagan BC, 2007

NkMip PB 07 Extravagantly perfumed with peach nectar, white blossoms, a hint of melon and juicy citrus. Vibrant acidity on the palate with flavours of spiced honeydew melon, lime juice, a suggestion of herbs and a pinch of nutmeg. The texture is smooth and it has a lovely weight.
About 10% Chardonnay has been added to the Pinot Blanc is this tasty combo.
