Wine Diva's Daily Scoop...
Tete a Tete - A Champagne tasting at La Terrazza
Champagne drinkers are Champagne drinkers. We
try to make up for those who don't drink Champagne.
And, most Champagne drinkers have their
favourite house. Not that a Champagne drinker
would turn down an offered glass - no matter whose
label is on the bottle. I did learn, that in Champagne,
wine style is often described as a season. Spring
being
crisp and radiant (as Christian Holthausen
describes his Piper-Heidsieck) and a dryer, toastier
style would be considered fall, or winter. To be able
taste all of these top
Champagne houses in one sitting is decadent - to
taste some of the top cuvee of these houses (the tete
de cuvee or "prestige bottles") is rare and absolutely
delightful.
We tasted: Taittinger Comte de
Champagne Rose Brut 2002, Nicolas Feuillatte
Palme d'Or Rose 2002, Lanson Blanc de Blancs
1997, Piper Cuvee Rare, Taittinger Brut Vintage 2000,
Mumm Cordon Rouge 1999, Lanson Noble Cuvee
Brut 1998, Nicolas Feuillatte Palme d'Or Brut 1997,
Piper Brut 1996, Mumm Cordon Rouge 1996,
Pommery Cuvee Louise 1995, de Venoge Louis XV
1995 and the Pommery Cuvee Louise
1990
And they were all
spectacular...
