This coming Monday is the official launch of the 30th Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Fest.
The week begins with wine events and dinners followed by seminars and of course - the ever popular International Tasting Room.
Here's a selection of wines you'll be able to sample in the tasting room and at events around town - test your palate and see what you think.
Granted, many of these wines will be from a more recent vintage and I'll be tasting the newest releases side-by-side with you.
So, limber-up, pucker-up, practice your spitting technique and carry a baguette to soak it up.

See you there...

Col de Salici Prosecco de Valdobbiadene,Veneto Italy, 2006

Col de Salici The Col de Salici is pale straw in colour with gorgeous aromas of creamy peaches, white flowers and candied citrus peel with a hint of mint and nutty/toasty notes. Super fresh on the palate - crisp on the entry, a creamy mousse mid-palate with flavours of honey, mineral, citrus and toast on the finish. It's off- dry with a lovely fruity linger.

More Bubbles at Wine Fest...

Mionetto Sergio 'MO' Rose, Veneto Italy

Sergio MO Prosecco The colour of wild strawberries with aromas of red cherry, warm blackberries, earth, violets and minerals. It's effervescent yet smooth with nice weight on the tongue showing vibrant berry, cherry pit, spice and a seam of citrus rind. This is no wimpy pink bubbly, it has solid grippy flavours, good acidity and a clean, firm finish.
Just one of a number of Mionetto bubblees to taste at Playhouse wine fest!

Sumac Ridge 'Pinnacle' Sparkling, Okanagan BC, 2001

Sumac Ridge Pinnacle sparkling This 'peak' of sparkling wine in Sumac Ridge's portfolio is made from 100% Pinot Noir. Age has lent the prominent toasted aromas and I love the berry, peach blossom and honeyed secondary notes. On the palate it's more crisp than creamy with zesty, lemon-y flavours and lingering toast and nutty flavours. Full-bodied and richly coloured with a golden- amber hue.

Cecchi "Natio" Chianti, Tuscany Italy, 2006

Cecchi Natio For some consumers the jury is still out on organic wines-are they really tasty?
The Natio is.
It's a lovely ruby-hue with mint-cherry, sweet beet aromas and raspberry notes. In the mouth it's fresh and juicy with bright berry fruit flavours, leather, tobacco and spice - a bit choppy on the palate but a truly refreshing, lighter-bodied red with only 12.5% alcohol!
