If you wanna see Santa dance give him wine!

A recap of BC wines from 2007.
Some are new reviews, some were rated in the Top 5 by Wine Diva readers and some are simply my favorites, the wines I like to drink.

Sweet Endings are those boozy little sweeties that'll put you into sugar-shock when you're sipping stag, so they're much more suited to crack open at this time of the year when more people are in the house to share with.

This being my final newsy-letter for 2007 I wanted to thank you all for your support and wine-y ways, with 250,000+ hits per month your precious palates are speaking loudly and your taste buds are unquestionable!
In 2008 I will be launching a secondary site - a sister to Wine Diva - less pink, similar reviews but with wine scores based on the commonly used 100 point scale.
It only took me four years...

So here is where I say Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and wish you all a healthy and prosperous New Year filled with barrels of wine.

 Nk'Mip 'Qwam Qwmt', Chardonnay 2006

NK MIP Q2 Chard The 2006 Q2 is rich golden-yellow in colour with ripe tropical notes - creamy pineapple, toasted nut brittle and melon with lemony hints. Layered and assertive flavours on the palate with smooth oak, pineapple and pear fruit and toasty spices on the finish.

 Summerhill Ehrenfelser, 2006

Summerhill Ehrenfelser Effusively perfumed with peach blossoms, exotic spices and honey. On the palate it is softly rounded, silky in texture, off-dry with sweet, ripe fruit, more warm spices, ginger and pink grapefruit zest.
Pair with glazed ham during the holidays or crisp Asian salad rolls dipped spicy peanut sauce.

Gehringer Brothers 'Dry Rock Vineyards' Merlot, 2006

Gehringer merlot An widely appealing and easy-drinking Merlot from this well recognized BC winery.

Mission Hill Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005

MH Reserve Cab Elegant.
Aromas are of fresh, sweet currants and plums, pepper and savoury herbs with cedar notes. Medium- full bodied and smooth on the palate showing black cherries, leather and rich dark earth followed with fine, integrated tannins and lingering spiced cocoa.
As an added bonus, a very drinkable 13% alcohol means a glass won't bring on the sandman.

 Sumac Ridge Sparkling Shiraz NV

Sumac Sparkling Shiraz A first for BC, this traditionally made sparkler is dryer than others you may have been previously aquainted with from Oz. Suited more to sweet, earthy and robust and meaty dishes with classic Shiraz nuances - dark fruit, earth and spice with secondary notes of blueberry. It's medium-bodied and bubbly with a dark berry fruit, followed with a toasty, peppery finish. Pair with ribs, rich ratatouille and of course sweet & spicy barbecued bites.

 Red Rooster Pinot Noir, 2006

Red rooster Pinot Noir
Red berries and cherries with classic, earthy Pinot Noir aromas - forest floor, leather and toasted spice notes. Tart red fruit and herbal flavours, char and toast with balanced acidity on the palate and lingering spice on the finish.
Mushroom dishes will compliment the earthiness of this wine.

Croft Original Pale Cream Sherry, Jerez Spain

Croft Sherry Clean, fresh and creamy this pale sherry shows leesy notes and almond skin aromas. Sweetly smooth and fluid on the palate showing crisp white fruit - it's a lovely aperitif, extremely well suited to roasted, spiced almonds or pair it with a starter of carmelized onion and creamy cheese tarts.

Prospect Winery Vidal Icewine, Okanagan BC, 2006

Prospect vidal icewine I've always had a soft spot for Vidal Icewine.
Sadly we don't produce it in BC nearly as much as Ontario does.
Vidal has the ability to take on truly seductive honeyed- apricot aromas as does this one which also shows dried pineapple notes. Slightly less sweet than one would expect with more pineapple, mango and lingering apricot jam, a soft rounded texture with zippy, clean citrus on the finish - that sticks.

Inniskillin Riesling Icewine, Okanagan BC, 2006

Inniskillin Icewine A lush treat of honeyed apricots and Earl Grey tea aromas rich and slick on the palate with dried apricots, candied citrus peel and creamy ginger. A lovely bright crispness on the finish balances this well- made liquid confection.
Serve with lemon-curd pavlovas or strong cheese.
