You know the drill... When uncle Albert comes
over - the one who stomps his own grapes
in the tool shed - you stock up on as many bottles for
under $10 as you can find. Just remember which
bottle you substituted your private stash into and chain
it to your side. But, for those of you who are
fortunate enough to have wine appreciators in the
family (or friends with similar fabulous palates) then
you'll want to give the gift that they may:
a)
share in
a
few
cellar years b) pour freely around the
table c) finally respect you for
After all,
good wine really should be shared to be fully
appreciated.
Or not...

Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin, Okanagan BC, 2005
The 2005 vintage is a dense and heady combination
of rich dark earth, savoury herbs, berry fruit and dried
plum aromas with whiffs of pencil shavings and
smoky/meaty notes. On the palate it is purely
masculine, chewy and quite massive showing cocoa,
leather and sweet tobacco with a chewy texture and
lingering char flavours. 67% Merlot, 23%
Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit
Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec
Decant if you must consume now but this would make
a wonderful cellar gift.
Released November 2007 $40.00 BC

Peter Lehmann 'Mentor' Cabernet Sauvignon, Barossa Aus, 2001
A rich, earthy red colour with berry, currants and
plummy aromas, mint chocolate, vanilla, caramel and
sweet cedary notes. Smooth on the entry with berry
and char flavours, it grows massive on the mid-palate
but maintains balance and mouth-watering freshness
followed by soft tannins and lingering cocoa.
A great gift bottle!
