...warming, engaging, romantic, rich, resveratrol, anthocyanin, antioxidants...just some descriptors for red, red wine that goes to my head.

Red, red wine you make me feel so fine, you keep me rockin' all of the time.
Red, red wine you make me feel so grand, I feel a million dollar when you're just in my hand...

Wine Diva's new red wine reviews...

 Elephant Island 'Stellaport' Naramata BC

Stellaport Stellaport is a combination of two words "Stella"-the gorgeous Stella cherries (see above photo) that have been growing on the Elephant Island land for decades and "Port"-from the fortified style dessert wine classic to Portugal.
Although the NV (non-vintage) Stellaport is produced in the traditional solera system method-like sherry (meaning the current wine in being blended with a combination of previous vintages) and its intriguing bottle reads like a time capsule of local and world events.
The new release--it's sixth--has a velvety opaque brickish hue with aromas of spice, lush slightly maderized cherries and pencil shavings. On the tongue it is sweetly smooth and rounded with a dryer, lingering spiced finish.

Bodegas Piqueras Marques De Rojas, Alamansa Spain, 2006

Marques de Rojas This wine covers so many bases you'll get extra brownie points for bringing it to your next get- together.
First, the art nouveau-esque label is brilliantly attractive. Second, the liquid inside is the colour of dark purple grape juice and the aromas are of crushed blackberries, smoked plums, iodine, spiced tobacco and cocoa. Immense, full-bodied and swimming with dark fruit flavours thirdly, it's under $10!
Made from Garnacha Tintorera.
Awesome value!

Nk'Mip 'Qwam Qwmt' Syrah, Okanagan BC, 2005

A robust wine, full-bodied and earthy with blackberry, plum and sausage aromas as well as notes of cocoa, leather, pepper and savoury herbs. Intense and opaque it has bright berries and dark fruit swirled with bittersweet chocolate, more spice and pepper and meaty char-grill flavours. Good acidity with still youthful, chewy tannins made protein based dishes. Decant before serving or if you are able, cellar for up to 5 more years.

 Somthing Smells...
 News from a scented soapbox

cow

Is the temperature rising in direct proportion to the heat being given in the battle between striking Vancouver city workers and the city?
Making matters worse, rising refuse piles have brought more worrisome pests out of the woodwork that are scuttling about and holding us hostage-- rodents...

But as distasteful as the smell in Vancouver may be getting, every smelly cloud has a silver lining.
Garlic.
A garlic backlash?
Yep, according to the Times Online former Italian Prime Minister and media mogul Silvio Berlusconi is using his clout and imploring Italian chefs to halt the use of "stinking garlic" in their dishes. He's not alone...

And last but by no means least...
Who would think that those gentle, morose creatures with their big eyes, are so... gassy?
Apparently livestock accounts for 18% of the world's green house emissions-ammonia, methane and nitrous oxide.
That's more than all transportation combined (cars, ships, planes, trains). And it's not just the er, rear end emissions.
It's all the belching.
Good thing they don't eat garlic...
