 Re(solutions)

I don't know about you but in my house resolution has become a dirty word. Its like opening your diary and letting everyone see your insecurities and weaknesses, broadcasting them and then trying not to seem affected when they see you FAIL! When people ask me what my New Years resolutions are I say, "If I tell you they won't come true"!
It takes them a moment to realize a resolution is not a wish upon a star and by then I'm long gone...

Tribal Sauvignon Blanc-Colombard, South Africa, 2005

Its a curiously lovely aroma on this South African blend. Like a delicate floral soap with a hint of ocean breeze followed up with a dollop of vanilla cream, pineapple, fresh cut grass and slices of crisp apples and pears. Refreshing and supple on the palate with sweet herbs and a hint of smoke on the finish. Unique and affordable!

McWilliams Hanwood Estate Chardonnay, Australia, 2004

A reason to revisit Chard from Oz.
The McWilliams is oozing sweet topical fruit, ripe melon and juicy pineapple. It has a creamy texture with hints of butterscotch but is ultimately fresh and bright in the mouth with citrus rind on the finish.

Finca Flichman Malbec, Mendoza Argentina, 2005

Well hello big boy!
This Argentinean Malbec is oozing sweet black cherry, dark chocolate, earth and leather with an underlying smoked meaty richness. On the tongue, he's smooth and warm-almost port-like with red fruit, bold chewy flavours and a grip that'll leave you wanting more.
And, at this price point he's something you really want to sink your teeth into.

 Grao Vasco, Dao Portugal, 2003

This is what Wine Diva calls a "Monday to Wednesday" wine.
Meaning for the price of about two lattes you can have a really good bottle with dinner. The Grao Vasco (named after the famous Portuguese painter) is a member of the SoGrape wine family and has red berry and cherry aromas, vanilla spice, leather, sweet oak and tobacco. It also has that wonderfully reserved and earthy rustic charm of old world wines hinting at dried fruit and culminating with a lovely, soft finish. A blend of traditional Dao regional grape varieties Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz.

 How Cheesy
Pont l'Evêque-Pierre Lesasseur France-Cow's milk cheese.

Wine Diva has purchased the Pont L'Eveque before but never in this handy demi sized brick. L'Evêque has a smooth formed surface with a fine crosshatched creamy hued (often orange) rind and delicate yellow interior. It has a barnyard-y aromatic essence to it a , funky and earthy. The texture is supple and creamy with a slightly rubbery brie-like mouth-feel with earthy mushroomy, herbal flavours and a strong milky finish. The Pont l'Evêque is not a completely mild cheese even if it looks completely innocent peering out at you from its adorable wooden case!
Similar to an Epoisses, Livarot or Tallegio.
Wine: Burgundy (Pinot Noir), Bordeaux blend, red Rhone variations.
Stink Factor: Medium-high
$10.00 per 175 gr demi-brick (approx)

 Fuel For the Fire
 Fuel Restaurant

When I lived at the corner of York and Yew in the early 1990's, Kitsilano was primarily long time renters, beach dwelling university students and (like me) twenty something transients sharing one bedroom flats. But something happened.... The students didn't leave upon graduation, the transients got better paying jobs, acquired spouses and decided, in typical Gruppie fashion, to not grow up. So they stayed put.
