With only New Years Eve yet to survive, Wine Diva can see the light at the end of this chocolate coated, turkey trodden tunnel.
The indulgence and debauchery of the past weeks will be but a memory but the lasting effects will spur on our yearly resolutions.

Good luck with that....

Retro Wine Party - Part II

In November Wine Diva did a short story reminiscing about retro wines. I've had amazing responses from readers, all positive, as they shared their personal (secret) favorites. I talked about Lonesome Charlie, Blue Nun and Mateus as well as my own youthful indulgence-Moody Blue (which I mistakenly called Moody Blues).
Well, in my searches I didn't get lucky with my mother's Lonesome Charlie but I did get some great private time with Moody Blue!

 Wines for the Office

Stuck doing time at the office over the holidays while everyone else is on vacation?
That sucks.
Well to make your incarceration period a bit more enjoyable here are a few beauty's to fill the water cooler with (and not share)!

Excellent Wines to treat yourself to....

Sandhill SLP "ONE", Phantom Creek Vineyard, Okanagan BC, 2004

The first-born of the Sandhill Small Lot's Program (SLP) the Bordelaise styled 'One', never fails to impress. It's warmth emanates from the glass, apparent before you even take your first sip.
Rich dark fruit and ripe blackberry aromas followed up with fresh bell pepper and dried herbal aromas. Dark chocolate covered plums on the palate with rich earth, cedar and tobacco on the finish. Tannins are present but not overt.
Not for the faint of heart this wine needs a food pairing of equal intensity-grilled or roasted meat dishes. A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 9% Malbec there were only 511 cases produced.

 Taste Bites
Restaurant Connor Butler...More than just a fine dining experience?

I don't have to convince you that every neighborhood needs a place to sit at the bar, have a few glasses of wine and perhaps a nibble or two.
Like Cheers, somewhere where everyone knows your name.
In our neighborhood we have Cru, Bin 942, West and a bit farther to the east-Ocean 617.
Now we have Conner Butler's.

 How Cheesy

Saenkanter Gouda 5+ Yrs old- Cow's milk cheese from Northern Holland.
WD loves this boldly orange cheese with its crystalline saltiness and strong nutty flavour. There are not many aged cheeses that can beat this one for its sheerly rich palate. Its protected by a thick black wax rind (not edible) and requires a little elbow grease to cut through. Not cheap though (deservedly so) so make sure you are aware of how much a small slice will cost you.
$3.95/100gr
Stink Factor-low

 Men in Moustaches

Let's be clear, I don't have a moustache fetish.
In fact I've given them very little thought, except when I've seen them on a face where they just don't belong.
