Garnishing Wine Diva's World

Some things have the power to bring an instant smile. For me, a wall of candy, a bouquet of gerbera daisies, the perfect shoes and the window display at Cupcakes.
Wine Diva just found another reason to beam-the Garnish Girls' newest product- edible, all natural Wild Hibiscus Flowers. These beautiful jellied blossoms from Australia are packaged in syrup, in glass jars of 50 and are available in North America for the first time. When owner Tina (one of the three lovely ladies of GG) emailed me about this new product I clapped my hands and giggled like Elmo!

  Voga in Sleeve
Vogue-ing with Voga

Voga Pinot Grigio, Veneto/Trentino Italy, 2005
If you are this pretty on the outside do people care what's on the inside? Maybe, maybe not. But just imagine if the inside is a pleasant surprise. The Voga is just what it claims to be-light, refreshing and clean with soft orchard fruit, fresh mineral and white floral aromas. Crisp and bright this is an easy drinking white wine that just happens to look fabulous on your table.

How Cheesy

Le Puits d'Astler- Don't let the look of this sheep's milk cheese deter you. It's funky looking with an uneven, gray/molded looking exterior. The rind is not only visually challenging but tough and really needs to be removed (I dare you). Inside is a soft, almost rubbery texture and barnyard, horsy aromas. The mouth-feel is smooth with herbal, earthy and mushroom flavours and a subtle bite on the finish. Comes in plate sized flat discs and is probably suited to the more adventurous cheese palate. $5.95 per 100g

Wine Diva-isms
Corked Wine-the agony and the attitude brokenglass225
Do women pick up cork taint more than men?
Do women have better sniffers? That would be a pretty big generalization but many studies have said yes, women do have better sniffers and more refined palates.

On corked wine...
I've had a server (in a prestigious restaurant) pick up my glass, sniff it and say "I get pear and mineral, this is how the wine smells", before deciding to give me a lesson in wine.
