Pluto Misrepresentation Syndrome
What happens when a Wine Diva's ruling
planet has
suddenly been downgraded to a large floating rock?
Do I lose my focus, crave pork rinds and wear a lot of black? Without Plutonian guidance will my fellow Scorpio's and I run amok crashing and bouncing along with no direction. The astrologers assured me that my ruling planet was powerful Pluto-I always wondered if it was because they secretly thought I was Goofy. Of course they also assured me that my power colour was blood red... |

Tantalus Riesling, Okanagan BC, 2005-
Tantalize me
with Tantalus.
Who's that you query? A new name, label, winemaker and owner for the former Pinot Reach Winery in Kelowna. Tantalus was purchased a couple years ago and this is the first vintage we have seen since the change-over. Results are not disappointing. Riesling has always had a solid base at this winery and if you remember previous winemaker Roger Wong (who is now at Gray Monk) produced his phenomenal personal label-Focus Riesling from here for a couple of vintages.
The Riesling tradition is being upheld with rumors of
an old vine version being released in the spring and
an upcoming Pinot Noir as well. Calona Blush, Okanagan BC, 2005- Wine Diva was sorry to see the remnants of the 2003 Blush disappear from Granville Island Brewing at $6.99 a bottle but hey, $9.99 is nothing to scoff at! A bit sweeter than the 2003 with wild berry and candied strawberry aromas, vanilla, spice and sweet buttered corn on the cob. All those aromas come through on the palate with nice sugar preserved lemon on the finish. $9.99 (+627695) UPC #00058976340637 Wine Diva tasted-August 2006 |

Is it all in the packaging?
Wine Diva is the last person to argue with
the
importance of packaging. Lately, despite intense
focus when approaching the wine shelves I have
found myself inexplicitly drawn toward all the pretty
colours, tins and Tetra appearing around me. They
call out my name (like the newest MAC lipgloss) and I
succumb to their garish charms. And like lipgloss,
sometimes the colour works for the individual,
sometimes it doesn't. Here are a few of shades for
you to try for yourself.
French Rabbit Family Reserve White, Vin de Pays
D'Oc N/V-OMG,o cute, the little bunnies
bouncing around, the colours, the carrots, the fun!
And it's a 1 litre (means more booze) Tetra Pak! |

Salt Tasting Room
From the moment it softly opened its doors on July
18th Wine Diva heard rave reviews!
Obviously, not
one to pass up the opportunity for a cheese plate
WD hiked up her skirt and wobbled down the
cobblestone alley in search of Salt! It was still early
(about 5:30) so the path was well lit (so were the,
er colorful characters that inhabit Blood Alley).
Stop here.
