Happy Chinese New Year 2012!

Chinese New Year is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays.  In China it is known as "Spring Festival", because it marks the end of the winter season. The festival begins on the first day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar, which this year is January 23rd. It ends with Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the month.  Because the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the "Lunar New Year".

According to the Chinese Zodiac, this coming year will be the Year of the Dragon.  The Dragon signifies happiness and success; expect 2012 to be a happy and joyful one. It is also said the Year of the Dragon will be marked by excitement, unpredictability, exhilaration and intensity as people respond to the spirit of the Dragon with energy, vitality and unbridled enthusiasm.

To help you take full advantage of what the new year has to offer, we encourage you to continue to make your health a priority this year: Eat well, exercise and support your health with regular Acupuncture treatments and Massages. This combination will give you the stamina to accomplish the goals you have set for yourself for the upcoming year.

Let us help you with your New Year Resolution to lose weight ~ naturally

A New Year resolution is a commitment an individual makes to one or more personal goals, projects, or to the reforming of a habit.

A key element to making a New Year Resolution successful is to share your plans with someone else, and to enlist a support team to help you achieve them. At Cascade Acupuncture Center, we want to help you with your plans this New Year to lose weight, naturally. During January we will be offering a very special workshop which can help you achieve your weight loss goals; 5 Secrets to Permanent Weight loss.

This workshop will be offered at our clinic, in The Dalles, on Thursday January 5th and in Hood River, at the China Gorge Restaurant, on Tuesday, January 17th.

We invite you to join us for one of these information workshops which will assist you with making your New Year Weight Loss resolution a reality! For more information about how acupuncture can help you lose weight click here.

Customer Appreciation Dinners

2011 provided us an abundance of blessings, many of those being our amazing clients. We appreciate those of you who have selected the team at Cascade Acupuncture Center to assist you with realizing your wellness goals. To honor you, we scheduled two customer appreciation dinners.

The first will be held in Hood River, at Grace Su's China Gorge Restaurant, on Thursday, February 8th.

The second will be held at the Canton Wok, in The Dalles, on Wednesday, March 7th.

This will be an occasion for you to celebrate the success of your Acupuncture care, with up to two guests. The evening will feature Carola Stepper, LAc, sharing the Cascade Acupuncture Center purpose and philosophy, discussing the benefits of Acupuncture and the wide range of ailments which can be treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine. In addition, there will be the opportunity for you to ask questions and actively participate in a discussions concerning Acupuncture care.

Because of the nature of the conversations, we ask you to invite someone who has a health problem, but may be too shy or afraid to make the first step to improving their health, naturally.  This will be a great way to introduce your loved ones to the benefits of Oriental Medicine and to encourage them to put their health first, just as you have.

We look forward to many of you being able to attend, and as our way of saying thank you, dinner for you and your guests, will be on us. Both dinners will start at 6pm.

You must sign up to attend one of these Customer Appreciation Dinners, as seating is limited.

Please email us with your name, contact information and the names of the guests you would like to bring.

Giving Back

As part of our community involvement each month we have decided to honor and support at least one local non-profit organization.  The organizations selected will be able to share who they are in our newsletter and all of their employees and volunteers receive a free Happy Hour treatment in our clinics during "their" month as a "thank you" for all they do.

Over the past several months we have been honoring different organizations which are now all housed under the parent organization The Next Door Inc. This month we are featuring:  New Parent Services.

New Parent Services provides support to vulnerable babies, children, and families in Hood River County and beyond.  They seek out those who are struggling particularly hard with poverty, isolation, depression or other mental health issues. They also help those who have a general lack of resources, education, or positive role models to be able to provide optimal parenting.

The identified families are then connected with caring, knowledgeable Home Visitors that serve as mentors and parenting coaches.  New Parent Services also provides parenting classes, play groups and supplies such as clothing and books. Their goal is healthy, thriving children raised in strong, nurturing families. For more information about New Parent Services, please contact Karen Enns, Program Director, at 541-436-0306 or email her by clicking here

Acupuncture for Weight Loss

If you want to lose weight naturally, without drugs or fad diets, try adding regular Acupuncture treatments to your weight loss program this year!

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine address both the physiological and psychological aspects of weight loss. It's a comprehensive therapy for weight issues that promotes better digestion, smoothes emotions, reduces appetite, improves metabolism, and eliminates food cravings. It is also a useful tool for addressing water retention and weight gain due to menopause or P.M.S.

Most clients report a marked decline in appetite and cravings with Acupuncture treatments alone but the addition of Chinese herbs, healing foods and exercises can definitely enhance the efficacy of the treatments!

Acupuncture releases endorphins which have a calming and relaxing effect that makes it easier to deal with the stress, frustration and anxiety that can trigger overeating and bingeing on fattening foods. Also endorphins affect the digestive and hormonal systems so Acupuncture can help rebalance the organ system that is running too slow - i.e., the metabolism.

In the struggle to eat less and expend more energy, you may find that Acupuncture is just what is needed to overcome cravings, boost energy, enhance your metabolism, and increase your willpower to succeed!

For additional information regarding natural ways to lose weight, sign up to attend one of our "5 Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss" workshops being offered during the month of January.

Or, call to schedule an appointment today with one of our Acupuncturist to discuss your particular pattern of overeating and how we can assist you to set a realistic plan to achieve your new year's weight loss goals.
