Giving Back
As part of our community involvement we have decided to honor and support one local non-profit organization per month. The selected organization will be able to share who they are in our newsletter and all of their employees and volunteers will be able to receive one free Happy Hour treatment in our clinics during "their" month as a "thank you" for all they do.
Over the past several months we have been honoring the different organizations which are now all housed under the parent organization The Next Door Inc. www.nextdoorinc.org.
This month, we are featuring Nuestra Comunidad Sana
Nuestra Comunidad Sana, a program of The Next Door Inc., has provided health education, promotion, advocacy and leadership development in the Latino community since 1988. They foster leadership, while addressing breast cancer, diabetes, substance abuse and obesity prevention. Most recently, staff and volunteers have been advocating for workplace policies that address wellness and access to health care. The following are samples of the programs/activities they have to offer:
· The Raices Greenhouse which helps families grow chemical free produce for their consumption and to sell at the local farmers markets.
· The Summer Youth Employment Program that provides jobs for teens while improving public forests
· Health Media Club that helps teens learn to research, create media, and design activities to prevent substance abuse.
For more information about Nuestra Comunidad Sana please call Jody O'Connor, NCS Program Manager at 541.436.0313.

Yarn needed (One of our clients asked us to post this)
Sue, Judy and several others make stocking caps, baby blankets, mittens, sweaters and scarves for Early Childhood Education students (Head Start) in Hood River, Wasco, Sherman and two Washington counties. More than 2000 items were donated to needy children.
They are asking for yarn donations and can use nearly any kind of yarn: Worsted weight, 4 ply, sports weight, 3 ply or 2 ply. Please drop it off in our offices.
They are also looking for people who can make these items - and accept already made items. Sue can be reached at (541) 298-2937.
