KLB Grant Focus:  Original Children's Book Features Literacy and Environmental
Responsibility

KLB Children's Book

Author Cindy Foust read her new book, "Be Smart...Do Your Part!" to first-graders at the Louisiana Governor's Mansion to launch the project.  The book, which targets elementary students, tells the story of a boy who becomes interested in serving his community and decides to do so by helping to preserve the environment. The book was initiated by the Monroe Rotary Club and sponsored in part by a grant from KLB this year.

KLB Announces Poster
Design Contest Winners

Winning design to be featured as a poster in all Louisiana Offices of Motor Vehicles.

KLB Poster Winner

In late October, Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) announced the winners of its first student poster design contest.  The contest called for entries from Louisiana middle and high school students (grades 7-12). In the above photo, KLB Executive Director Leigh Harris (left) congratulates First Place Winner Jenny Wang (middle) and Glasgow Middle School Educator Geeta Dave (right).

The program, created by KLB, gave students the chance to design a portrait of what Louisiana would look like if citizens refrained from littering, recycled more and took time to beautify our state's landscape.

The winners are:
  • First Place - Jenny Wang, Glasgow Middle School - Baton Rouge, LA
  • Second Place - Cayla Zeek, St. Thomas More High School - Lafayette, LA
  • Third Place - Jenny Zhang, Glasgow Middle School - Baton Rouge, LA
  • Most Creative - Emma McKay, Ascension Episcopal School - Lafayette, LA

Wang's design is featured as a poster in all Louisiana Motor Vehicles field offices.  She was also awarded $500.  The runners-up received awards for their designs as well.
